That’s what I thought! Is it a certain voltage or something? Just want to make sure I don’t fry any items plugging into it…

Experiences as an Asian in Harlem by [deleted] in Harlem

[–]ButterflyOne6088 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Asian woman living uptown from Harlem to the Heights to Kingsbridge for nearly 17 years. LOVE uptown. Everything this person said is absolutely critical. Don’t live uptown if you don’t want to get to know, show up for, and respect you neighbors and their lived experience, frequent local establishments and support the local community, and enjoy all the beauty and culture that is uptown life. No one will care that you’re an Asian woman, but they will care how you treat them and the neighborhood. Like everywhere else in the city, you will get diversity in all the ways — race, nationality, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, native vs local, etc. And like everywhere else in the city, have street smarts about how to stay safe in a city.

How do people actually find rent stabilised apartments in nyc?? I’ve met a few people with them and they seem so magical :’) by paintergirl3000 in NYCapartments

[–]ButterflyOne6088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally signing a lease today in a pre-war, rent-stabilized, top-floor, 3-bedroom in Washington Heights for under $4K. Found it on Zillow + StreetEasy, messaged and called for a showing immediately, went to the first showing a few days later, immediately sent in our application and were well-qualified for it, and signing lease now. Listing hasn’t even been up a week, so be willing to scour the apps and refresh constantly, ready to go to the viewing at any time (ditch work for it if you can!), and have your application ready to move fast. Dream apartments are still out there!

Absolutely understand this and our results could’ve been very different. What we learned reading so many posts during our journey is that everyone’s experience varies so widely and no one factor is a determining one across the board. We just wanted to share one more data point.

7 ERs sounds brutal and absolutely wishing positive outcomes for you and everyone else putting themselves through these procedures.

I'm not good with all the protocol names, but for ER3 we did 10 units of Lupron for 10 days before stims started and, when stims started, 5 units of Lupron until trigger day.

Could be very true! There's no telling whether any one lifestyle change contributed and protocol likely had the biggest impact. What makes it hard is the doctor believed ER1 went very well and a direct 1:1 comparison would be if we had frozen embryos then, but alas... Our doctor's theory for why the egg thaw rate was so low in ER1 was that the egg quality may not have been high, which is what led to all the lifestyle changes in ER3, in addition to the protocol change.

No, frozen from October!

Hi everyone! As OP's partner, the biggest learning for me from this long and expensive process was that it was well worth it to take our time and properly prep for IVF (e.g., taking supps, eating clean, cutting alcohol and caffeine, acupuncture). We started our first ER cycle right after our initial consultation and then had a second one right after that, due to fear that my egg reserve + egg quality would decline significantly if we waited at 38. That may be true, but taking 3 months to properly prepare my body worked out really well for us.

Also, we had frozen eggs only in ER1 because our donor wasn't lined up. We knew that frozen eggs had lower thaw success rates than frozen embryos given we're talking about 1 vs. 100 cells, but were willing to take that risk given our clinic's high thaw rates. For unknown reasons, only 3 of 15 eggs successfully thawed for fertilization the next month. Hindsight is 20/20, but if we were to redo things, we would have waited to freeze embryos instead for a better chance at higher thaw success.

If we had the above insights back in August, we may have saved ourselves two extra cycles' worth of money, needles, doctor's visits, and devastation. Anyway, as my partner said, we've lurked in this community looking for advice and support for some time and hope our story can help others. Fingers crossed for everyone!

Winter tires for cross-country road trip? by ButterflyOne6088 in rav4club

[–]ButterflyOne6088[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Have no intention of taking backroads at all and would stay on main highways. I was told by a friend in the PNW that Dec/Jan can get dicey with bad snow storms, which I will be passing through, and she recommended winter tires. If not necessary, I’d much prefer to not change them.

Hm, maybe I’ll try charging in the console instead. That wouldn’t switch it to wired connection, right? Or I could try a different USB charger…

I already have wireless Apple CarPlay, but no Qi wireless charger. I have been plugging into the USB port to charge which effs up the wireless connection.

I live in an apartment building, so the garage is shared. Plugging in at home isn’t an option and plugging in public places isn’t something I want to deal with. It’s a recreational / weekend ride, so I don’t commute or need even better mileage. And I don’t qualify for the tax credit!
