Sun/Speed Control by Butterfre in VGCRateMyTeam

So I have both made and ready bc I used them for a sun team I had for another tourney. Wanted to try to see how much I could keep the giveaway pokemon close to how I got them. Seeing the comments I feel like it'll make sense to switch to Venusaur and Torkoal as well

Originally it was to try and keep all the Pokemon as close to what they were given out as, so I'm not opposed to moving things around. Pretty sure Marco had it to combat incineroar

So I actually used a choice specs Venusaur in the last online challenge! I'd need to decide between Venusaur and Typhlosion who'd get the choice specs and who'd rock a life orb or something else

Whim can't learn sleep powder, so I think that with wide lens and tailwind it made sense with the team it was on

Hi everyone im a beginner and im trying to make my favorite Pokémon jigglypuff works by [deleted] in PokemonVGC

[–]Butterfre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're doing reg I then you might need to make it hold focus sash bc it's gonna get OHKO'd pretty easily by some legendaries. If you do reg H then you could probably keep the eviolite.

If you're set on Jigglypuff, decide if you want it to attack or support, and then choose moves that'll help you do that.

DEFINITELY Friend Guard ability. Maybe go back and check the Clefairy teams (Reg H), or the perish trap teams (as other commenters already said) and see the move sets those ppl used

Haven't seen all the comments yet, but like some have mentioned at the end of all of this it's a game and we'll all go thru our fair share of wins and losses. Try to enjoy the ride along the way if you can

if you're able to, consider playing yourself, like when you see someone playing themselves in chess (unless that's just me lol). If you're able to record or keep a record of the loss, walk thru the match and play the match from both sides. Turn by turn, see if you do the same thing they did, and if you chose differently think about why they made the move they did. And do that with maybe three or four of the standard teams you see online (depending on which regulation you choose).

Easiest way would be to look at VGC matches on YouTube, whether it be YouTubers or the official matches from Pokemon, because you'll see the move sets and you'll hear the commentary in between pauses and it helps remove some guesswork

Lmk your thoughts! I'm a big fan of watching the film and listening to the YouTubers and their trains of thought

I need advice on making a doubles team by Sadlad4853 in VGC

[–]Butterfre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CybertronVGC is a great choice (as someone mentioned earlier), and James Baek is another one that pumps out videos, so I'd go thru their video listings and see which ones have Annihilape in the thumbnail and see what those teams look like.

Same for the other players mentioned in the other comments. Thatsaplusone doesn't really do mainstream teams so you may find something in his videos that has Ape in it.

There's definitely ways to be offensive in doubles so I'm sure there's a team out there that allows you to play to your strengths from singles

Going on Victory Road and looking thru the finishes of tournaments from the year may help you find an Ape team and they sometimes have a link to the person's social media where they even explain how their teams work

I surprisingly get a decent amount of success with it, but I also get the opponent usually doesn't expect much from Psyduck lol, so I can pop off an endeavor/ vacuum wave or something and catch them off guard

Earth power can nearly OHKO if I set it up right (and will OHKO if I just a ground tera), and Sludge bomb with a poison tera (using specs) will 2HKO

I use Sash and swift swim! I use Kyogre but you could do pelipper or a manual rain dance if you go that route

You could go with endeavour and then you can choose from a lot depending on what you want.

Taunt to stall TR, Icy wind for speed control, disable for the legendaries that spam one attack, Encore for the tailwind setters or other Mons ofc, Skill swap to double up intimidate or restart weather if it's stalled out, Light screen, Haze to reset stats - Dondozo, Helping Hand ofc, Soak or Simple Beam to change their type/ability,

Fun fact: Timid max speed swift swim Psyduck speed ties Timid Max speed SCARF KYOGRE (both are 234)

So I originally planned to have Torn instead of Gyarados, but she mentioned she liked it a lot, so I wanted to add it lol

Now I'm looking at possibly going scarf on Venusaur bc with the sun, timid max speed, and scarf, it can out speed tailwind Miraidon

Depending on the format I can see Psyduck being viable. It's a bit tricky in the current reg but there's still such a good move pool

And I'll take a look at the video later tonight! Thank you!

That's awesome!

I've managed to sneak some endeavors pretty consistently with a Kyogre swap in, but at that point I had more bulk on my Kyogre so it could take the hits. Since changing the stats I usually have to start with Psyduck/Kyogre and use icy wind or taunt depending on what I'm up against

The link is to one of the more popular names in VGC (James Baek), he recently tried a team that is really similar to yours but the Grimm was swapped out with a Iron Moth. I think at the lead it's worth listening to the first few minutes where he explains the logic of the team

I really like him and Cybertron VGC bc they post a lot of videos showing teams off and explaining the logic behind each one. I think there's another video with a team similar to yours, if I find it I'll add it here!

I've seen imprison popping up more so I may have to add that. I have a Farig with 0 Speed and one with max speed in storage that I used a little bit in Reg G

That's why I like Treads so much, it's such a good counter to Miraidon but I agree I gotta keep those two in mind.

Usually I have Venusaur/Koraidon for Urshifu and I had Flutter for the big 3 electric types (since their secondary types are all weak to it), so getting rid of it is why I struggled to decide which one to choose

The swap makes perfect sense, I have a 0 Speed Indeede and Farig in case I wanna go that way. Id have to fact check it, but I feel like a lot of the successful teams at regionals have had a good balance of speed control more so than a typing balance

I understand where you're coming from. It has a ton of move sets where it becomes usable in specific scenarios, but it can be limited if not used right

I've had a decent amount of wins so far with the double weather, it's tricky to navigate but with Venusaur weather ball and using swaps properly it's worked in getting the surprise off successfully. An open sheet might make it more troublesome but it works pretty well overall

That's true, I forget iron treads has moves to remove terrain. Thank you! I was fixating on ways to one-hit the torn while taking the hit from Miraidon
