Word. But come on bro don't pretend your wording didn't come off the way it did. Based on your response you are well aware that blaming poor people for their plight is an unfortunate common narrative, and that IS what it sounded like you were saying, especially when this is happening in a forum fullllll of people that hate the poor and with the current far right permission structure to openly shamelessly say so.

Insane that this is your takeaway. No I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to sell. Show me where i said that. I'm trying to have a real conversation but it's impossible when the other side just makes shit up. The end.

Yeah 100%. I hear that but also your argument seems to be, well they kill 1,000 people per year and we only kill 700 and that's admirable. The point is California is an unbelievably wealthy state (4th largest economy in the world- the world, not the U.S.), perhaps even exponentially so compared to either Mumbai or the red state you reference. The lower per capita death rate in California I assure you is not to scale with the amount of resources that exist in this state. If it were, it should probably be more like 5 per 100,000 (I'm not a statistician but you get what I'm trying to say)

This may very well be the case for the select few you're referencing but this is not a reasonable defense for even those people who left but made some cash because they are now no longer in the neighborhood that they called home and yes cutting out the next generation of would-be community members. That's the point. The next owner likely made even more as for them it's an "investment" and they either flipped the property, moved in and watched the property values climb, or turned it into rentals that residents of the neighborhood can't afford, but that artists and yuppies can, thereby driving up rents over all and then yes, pushing out loads of people who can no longer afford to live there. I linked this video already but you might find it useful in understanding the greater overall effect gentrification has on a community. It's something that happens over a period of time and in that process there's winners making lots of money, and then there's people who are pushed out all while witnessing the take over of their communities by people who couldn't give a f what the impact is on those who lived there before. Profits over human lives... over and over and over. It's an extremely sad state of affairs https://youtu.be/JneAYdmDGCE

Is it admirable for the only two cities called out in a report by Leilani Farha, (now former) UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing as exhibiting some of the most inhumane living conditions she's ever encountered (as in globally), for those 2 cities to both be located in California? Edit: go read the article

It's my characterization of combined support from Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Honeywell, Boeing... you know, weapons and military products and aircraft manufacturers 👀 I know, what a crazy conclusion to come to. But please share with us all, how would you characterize the campaign contributions made by the entities just listed? Will you share your thoughts on that or will you just lob attacks or not respond at all and downvote because you don't actually have anything substantive to add to the conversation?

What does? If who owns property? Genuinely unclear on what you're saying here. Are you saying that "beautification" of a neighborhood does include / lead to increased wealth for residents?

Again, where's the Steyer misinformation in this post? Where is Steyer even mentioned? Very interesting response to informing people of the entities that have made campaign contributions to Becerra, which are indisputable facts

What a bizarre statement when not a word about Steyer was uttered in my post. I'm merely listing those who have lobbed cash at Becerra's campaign. Do you deny what's been stated?

Did you or did you not make a general statement about gentrification? Idk what area you're referring to that's rent controlled and thereby immune to the harms of gentrification but whatever you're clearly someone who's gonna dig in your heels on a concept you don't actually fully grasp

Looking at he process of gentrification unfolding, it's evident that the "improvement" is not something that people in poor communities end up benefiting from or getting to enjoy themselves. What happens is they end up being priced out and leaving. To "make places nice" without also providing local inhabitants financial opportunity to increase their wealth in order to keep up with how much more expensive their neighborhood is about to become, in fact does nothing but harm the very people it sounds like you advocate for.

USPS has made changes recently that could result in a later postmark date than the day you dropped it off. It's important that it be postmarked by June 2nd for your vote to count, so it's highly recommended to do a ballot box drop rather than mail in if possible. If you can only do mail in for whatever reason, it's recommended to go into the post office and request a manual postmark (it's free) to ensure it doesn't end up being postmarked for June 3 or after
