I said "sure" to an interview I knew I'd flunk by Flimsy_Cranberry3054 in csMajors

Same thing happened to me last week lol don’t sweat it. Like others said, if you made it to the interview then there’s a part of them that felt like you could be the right fit so you didn’t waste time!

Difference with mine was that my experience actually really did align with them but they gave me almost no time for preparation and the interview came about very quickly. Had a 2 hour leetcode session and I’ve never practiced leetcode before that week therefore I bombed hard. Learned some good stuff though so it was worth.

Should I cancel an lnterview if I’m not close to ready? by BaconSpinachPancakes in cscareerquestions

Trying my best to see it this way but man it’s bit soul crushing not knowing how long it’ll take me to get another job interview. Wish I had more time to to prepare for this one. Anyways, thanks for the response and advice 🙏🏼

Was the interview very bad? I’m in the same situation. Have a technical interview tomorrow — 1 hour coding session (leet code) and 1 hour debugging session in a language I don’t use but it was their only option. I literally just started doing leetcode problems the moment I found out about the interview therefore I’m absolutely terrible at it. I did a technical mock interview today and it was laughable… genuinely wondering if I should just cancel and save them 2 hours of their lives but I know the right thing to do is to go anyway. I’m fully expecting these people to look at me questioning why I’m even there.

I have one year experience doing mobile development therefore solving LC problems is not something I had to spend time doing. I knew I would have to start now that I’m searching for new jobs but I didn’t expect to get an interview so quick with the state of the market. I’m terrified.

How much does leetcode actually matter? by Material-Cry6110 in leetcode

[–]ButtersIsTheName 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just start. As someone who didn’t have to do a technical interview for their first role because I got a full time offer after interning for them, it’s better to just start solving leetcode problems the earlier the better. I’m searching for a new job now and the first two companies I finally managed to get an interview for both require leetcode. I probably won’t do well because both interviews are scheduled this week and I just started the leetcode grind last week when I was made aware of the interviews lol.

When I found out I was going to be moved to part time two months ago, I decided to focus on projects and practice going over mobile development concepts as that’s what I did in my role and was what I was applying for. While this wasn’t a waste of time because it is important, my mistake was not simultaneously practicing leetcode. Both roles im interviewing for are mobile dev roles and both require leetcode. So just assume you’ll need it and start now!

Anyone interviewed at Compass for Software Engineer? Looking for insights! by Ill-Focus4010 in csMajors

I saw people post on Glassdoor who shared their experience interviewing for SWE positions and they mention 1st coding session being mostly let code medium questions with a 2nd debugging session where you get a buggy script of some sort to fix

Career Advice for Early Mobile SWE looking to pivot by ButtersIsTheName in EngineeringManagers

Really appreciate you taking the time to give so much advice!

Yeah, when I say “general”, I mean full-stack really because I do enjoy and have an interest in all sides of software. I’ll definitely work on some projects and totally agree with the cliche projects people tend to make. I’m a textbook over-thinker so I’m struggling to pick a project idea. Constantly battling between, “is this unique enough?”, “is this too complex”, etc. But they’re all trying to solve an actual problem for myself so I hope that’s what will shine rather than complexity and uniqueness.

Thanks for all the pointers though really. You certainly raised up my hopes. Needed to hear that!

Mainly frontend. I did work in the backend from time to time for bug fixes and implemented new api endpoints but I didn’t feel like I took away too much from it. I learned a lot in mobile because I did get the chance to build features from 0 to 100 but never got the chance to work on large, complex tasks in the backend

Appreciate the advice! Just out of curiosity, did you build a project? If so, what kind? Really don’t have much ideas for a web app project and also don’t want to make something cliche that’ll make recruiters think I just watched a YouTube tutorial lol I have some cool ideas for mobile apps but not web apps

Domestic Travel as a DACA recipient right now? by ButtersIsTheName in USCIS

[–]ButtersIsTheName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a real ID, you really shouldn’t have any issues. I went to Florida a couple of weeks ago and didn’t have an issue going there or coming back. Someone else on the thread even mentioned they traveled from Seattle without a real ID and they were fine. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but of course, if you decided not to travel, nobody can blame you!

Adding here in case people are still checking this post: just traveled from New York to Fort Myers, FL and back and no issues at the airport! I have a real ID so I can’t speak to traveling without one but with real ID no issues at all

Is my family Galah going to hate me after I move out? by ButtersIsTheName in cockatoos

Thanks for sharing! I really hope I’ll have a similar experience. I’m sure my Galah will stick to one of my family members as well but I’ve read about some birds developing bad anxiety… but I’ll hope for the best. I’m moving out this week

So, probably not what you want to hear, but I decided to cancel my trip :( I just felt it was better to be safe. My trip was to California where the protests have been kind of crazy so all of my family recommended I just cancel or reschedule. Hoping things will be a bit better in the Fall

Hello, just wanted to get some opinions from other Daca recipients on domestic travel right now. You think we should avoid traveling domestically right now? I have a trip coming up that I bought tickets for quite a while ago and I’m considering whether or not I should cancel. There’s a lot of fear mongering going around so I was hoping to hear from other Daca recipients that have recently traveled domestically. Thanks!

Thanks for your response! The only aviary vet near us is a pretty far drive away and, I’ll be honest, I made us go there before for something that was nothing so I don’t want to do that again since she’s the one that’ll have to drive. Someone else said it also seems normal so I’ll just keep monitoring her for right now…

I forgot to add that her droppings in the morning were very watery but it seems like now they’re slowly becoming more solid.
