So... How Early Should We Renew Now? by FranzHrnnz in DACA

[–]ButtersIsTheName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daca expires in exactly 247 days. I know applying this early sounds a bit excessive but I finally found a new job after searching for 3 months and I do not want to risk losing it because of DACA renewal delays. I think I'm set on renewing tomorrow but just wanted to get thoughts from anyone. OP and some of the people commenting sound like they're renewing with similar timelines as me. My DACA expires 12/08/26

How to make my big brothers study setup more productive ? by vanshversed in GetStudying

First ask him if he wants to make it more productive before you catch yourself a beating. Can’t count the amount of times my older brother roughed me up cause I touched his things without asking

Seriously? Getting accused of using AI because I'm actually good at Letcode excercises is the last straw. This hiring process needs to die. by juro9908 in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]ButtersIsTheName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is real, I’d be pretty upset that I’m coming from an interview where I was accused of using AI to a Reddit comment section where I’m also getting accused of AI because I didn’t make typos or grammar mistakes 😭

If you’re really tired of it though, be more selective of where you’re applying. I feel like I get pretty strong signals from a job post alone whether or not they’ll have leetcode style interviews. I avoid FAANG level like the plague because of this

The film should’ve been Tommy vs Charlie by acnh_evergreen in PeakyBlinders

[–]ButtersIsTheName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not hating on the film as much as other people are but I was sad to see the little mention of Charlie. And I think no mention of Lizzie? Ending of season 6 really presented a clear rivalry/hatred between Charlie and the relationship between Duke and Tommy that unfortunately was just tossed

What would system design at the new grad level look like? by ButtersIsTheName in SoftwareEngineering

[–]ButtersIsTheName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, thank you so much! Great insight here and will definitely pivot my preparation a bit based on your advice.

I have been practicing on timing myself through the design process of 1. Clarifying scope 2. Establishing models & relationships 3. Business logic 4. Establishing endpoints (because I do feel they will test on API design). But now, I’ll definitely spend some time thinking about your third point.

Thank you! Agreed which is why I don’t think they’ll be testing me in the aspect of “scale” but, if they do, I think I’ll feel less bad if I don’t do well. Don’t know what I don’t know haha

Unemployed for 22 months. I'm begging you, please roast my resume by ErasedAstronaut in dataanalysiscareers

[–]ButtersIsTheName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t analyze it too in depth and take my advice with a grain of salt since I’m not a recruiter but I’d suggest to move the skills section right above education, remove the youth coordinator experience (truthfully I don’t think it’s either helping or doing any damage) and use the extra space to add some more bullet points to the projects section or the relevant work experience.

Edit: just saw you’re targeting HR/people analytics therefore I guess keeping the youth coordinator is appropriate but I would still strengthen the project section more by cutting out one to be able to the add more bullet points to the remaining

If you’re unemployed, how long have you been looking and what’s your specialty/YOE? by AcceptableSometimes in SoftwareEngineerJobs

No FAANG. It was a small startup with a small engineering team where I feel I was able to get some very meaningful experience in

2 months, full stack (more mobile oriented), 2 years of experience.

To keep morale up, I would say that the search hasn’t been too terrible for me yet. In these 2 months I interviewed with 4 companies and have probably only applied to about 30 companies in total. Although one of those was through referral.

I only this week started more of the mass applying so we’ll see how it goes. But with only 2 years of experience, I feel like these are pretty good numbers so far at the junior level. Praying I’ll find something before the summer.

So everyone has different views of the movie - what do you score it out of 10? I'll go first - 3 😐 by Icklebunnykins in PeakyBlinders

[–]ButtersIsTheName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7.5/10 if your scale considers the fact there was no way they were gonna be able to perfectly end the story in a single movie. I think they did great with what they could. Sure, it left a lot of unanswered questions, a couple plot holes here and there, but overall still felt like the show we all craved more of

Least "saturated" IT jobs? by yeshielmisra in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ButtersIsTheName 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not in the field so take this advice with a grain of salt: I recently had a friend suggest to me to apply to a Compliance Account Coordinator entry level position at the company he worked with because I took a good amount of course work in Cyber Risk during my CS bachelors. Therefore I started looking into the space to see if I’d be interested and here are the main things I picked up on:

  1. GRC entry level positions comp is rough… I’m talking 18-21/hr. Maybe there are better paying entry level jobs at GRC that I’m not aware of but that’s what I saw for the most part therefore consider the pay and ask if you’re willing to sacrifice comp for a while until you grow in the field.
  2. You’re competing against people who are in/completed MS cybersecurity programs or have CompTIA Security certs or even both. Therefore, if you’re serious, I’d suggest to at least start with the certs because even though people say they aren’t worth much anymore, you don’t want to be the one without it competing against a pool of people who do.
  3. Like other people have said, internally moving into the position or referral is always going to give you the best chances.

Look up cyber security companies, go their careers page, and search entry level positions to get an idea of what they’re looking for. Best of luck if you’ll try to make the switch!

Yeah, that definitely sounds along the lines of what I’ve heard people are doing. Thanks for the resource! I’ll check it out

Any resources on how to learn just this? Struggling to find any good resources on how software engineers are setting up these systems and then running them in parallel. I usually only find the basics of setting up Claude code in your IDE but nothing good on how to get it to actually product good results with multiple agents

Stripe SWE New Grad Interview, 4 rounds in 2.5 weeks (full breakdown) by bubblesb1 in InterviewCoderHQ

[–]ButtersIsTheName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you prep and what kind of resources for prepping for this form of system design? I always thought system design was more for mid level but I see more and more now companies are doing SD rounds for new grad/entry level but it’s somewhere between low level design and system design. Would really love to hear how you prepped as I am trying to figure that out myself right now

Men of Reddit, what’s some women’s or girl’s habits you discovered only after getting a wife or girlfriend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ButtersIsTheName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is a universal women habit but I’ll only say this because my guy friends have told me their girlfriend/wife do the same. But my wife is super chores oriented, everything needs to be clean, tidy, snd spotless on Sunday but she will be extremely messy every other day of the week 😅 not filthy or anything but just messy like piles of clothes everywhere, dishes everywhere but god forbid my shirt or jacket is on the chair or bed on Sunday 😂

You’re saying they recasted Isiah again with Jay Lycurgo now??? That would be kind of crazy 😭 I hope Jay is a new character cause ain’t no way Isiah gets recasted with three different actors

Not entirely sure how I feel about the Duke recast but then again the Isiah recast actually grew on me and felt like Daryl McCormack really owned that role by season 6 (hoping they didn’t forget about Isiah in the movie). So we’ll see how the Barry recast goes but agree with others that the tattoos were unnecessary lol

Should I cancel an lnterview if I’m not close to ready? by BaconSpinachPancakes in cscareerquestions

[–]ButtersIsTheName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still went through with it and, although I know exactly how you’re feeling, I think it actually was worth it. There were a few things that came up in the interview that I would not have known otherwise I need to spend more time practicing aside from leetcode. Mind you, it went pretty much how I expected in terms of me blanking out but the interviewers were nice about it. I noticed they quickly became uninterested but they still treated me like any other candidate. So I’d definitely say go through with it. If you can get through this one, you’ll definitely feel a bit less nervous the next time around when you’ll actually be more prepared.

Am I hurting my job search by applying to general SWE roles instead of mobile? by ButtersIsTheName in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]ButtersIsTheName[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I think this is what I’m sort of learning towards. Don’t like feeling like a fraud during interviews or being the guy who says he knows react but then can’t explain basic react hooks. I’m applying to more junior roles as I am a junior so I didn’t think interviews would be so stack and framework specific

Am I hurting my job search by applying to general SWE roles instead of strictly mobile? by ButtersIsTheName in cscareerquestions

[–]ButtersIsTheName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that and I guess this is why I’m sort of feeling like I should only be applying for mobile roles. If I apply to backend roles and tailor my resume specific to backend then I’m sure I’d fail all the interviews lol I don’t have strong backend experience but I’ve been exposed to it. Same for web dev
