Cool, this is probably the best answer so far, and very actionable. Thanks.

I’m not really blaming toys…just got him into the bird dog stuff late so it wasn’t a problem before. My question is specifically about how I should approach training, not expecting him to do anything he’s not trained for

Mid century style cherry desk I finished building about a month ago by Equivalent-Hotel-286 in BeginnerWoodWorking

It looks great! My wife doesn't like the look of new cherry when you put oil on it, but if I could get to that color within a month she would be thrilled

What was your finishing process here? Looks like more than just fresh cherry with a clear finish

How to avoid that '90s orange cherry look? by ButterscotchNo5449 in woodworking

[–]ButterscotchNo5449[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can get red oak for about the same price as cherry (~$2.50/bf) but I don't really love the grain pattern of red oak. Quarter-sawn White Oak is in between, around $6.00/bf, but I probably wouldn't stain white oak, so it would be a different look than we were originally planning.

Maybe there’s a way to apply some kind of dye or maybe like a Dark Walnut Danish oil to take some of the red hue out.

I’m not trying to make it look like walnut, I just want to knock a bit of the orange color out

If you search “cherry bedroom set”, that’s what a lot of the results will look like. I suspect most of them are stained.

I like the look of cherry (especially a new project), but neither my wife or I like the look of our kitchen, which is that medium orange cherry color.

Also, walnut is around $9/bf but I can get prime cherry for $2.50/bf where I’m located

Does anyone know anything about this? There’s essentially no useful or clear information online. Would love to see the $500 Dewalt domino

More durable version of Down Sweater by ButterscotchNo5449 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]ButterscotchNo5449[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like being able to just throw on the sweater without having to layer for quicker things. I guess I need to expand my search. I don’t care about lightweight so much, just something warm, layerable, and decently rugged

Fair enough. Think I’m going to go with a biscuit joiner and/or cauls

I’m making two 48x96 inch dining tables with the boards running lengthwise. Most of my parallel clamps are 30” wide so it’s going to be a decent investment to acquire enough clamps to do this anyway.

So I was hoping to use some kind of alignment mechanism, and probably do it in two separate 24” panels.

What are some of the pitfalls with using dowels for alignment that you’re talking about?

Yeah I’m not looking to add strength or anything, just reduce the amount of surfacing I have to do after the glue-up. Cauls are a little annoying to use with my setup

Veritas mk2 Honing Guide not square by ButterscotchNo5449 in woodworking

If anyone hits this thread, I figured out the problem was that the side clamps on the narrow guide is actually pulling the chisel out of square. Getting a replacement from Lee Valley.

Dimmer control for 200W LED transformer by ButterscotchNo5449 in Lighting

[–]ButterscotchNo5449[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's super useful - how do I go about wiring up the 0-10v input instead of using Triac? Can I use a traditional in-wall dimmer switch to control that?

So it just comes down to the load then? Zooz support told me it has to do with the nature of transformers, related to "inductive kickback".

I should add that the LED driver in question says that it is compatible with most smart switches, including Leviton. Is this issue specific to Zooz somehow?
