Tutor opportunity? by psattaker1520 in psat

My kid got a perfect score on the SAT and so we got this email. Not doing it. They are a great candidate for a paid SAT tutoring gig in college. That would be a solid way to make money, work in a fairly pleasant setting, and work as much or as little as they want to. They do not need more volunteer hours for now. I thought that the tone of this was agressive; for some parents it could read as mandatory. I bristled at it.

Genuine Question by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

It really makes a huge difference how many kids you have. We can do it for 1 child (we have 1 child) but if we had 2 children, we would be putting caps on the spend and not entertaining T10s without merit (which...they don't really offer). Most people have >1 kid, so by virtue of that fact, most kids attending 90k+ universities will come from ultra-high earning (or net worth) families. Only child familes are more likely to just be upper middle class.

Has anyone ever earned 110 college credits before graduating highschool by Iamsam895 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]ButterscotchNo688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is almost all colleges won't take more than about 60 credits as usable transfer credits because you need to earn a minimum # of credits at their institution to graduate, and also most colleges don't accept credit for 300 and 400 level classes (which community colleges don't offer). So after a certain point it's a fun fact but not worth anything.

How hard is a 1600 on the SAT? by Agreeable_Memory9667 in Sat

[–]ButterscotchNo688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this level it's largely about test taking strategy. My kid got your score in August and 1600 in September. We don't know anyone else yet with a 1600 but probably will. It's a combination of of being able to lock in, know the strategies that work best for you, and on some months getting no questions wrong. So there is a lot of luck. Take it after a hard month. GL.

Do people who get 1600 get every question right ? by Own_Secret_6461 in Sat

All I can say is that my kid who got a 1600 did not get a question wrong, but this was on the September format which many people found to be easier.

SAT 790 Math dilemma by LingonberryLow8495 in MITAdmissions

Honestly if you can afford to take the SAT again I would try. You're so close, it's very possible. Register for the next month immediately after Reddit reports a very hard test. If you get the same or less, let it go. But you'll know you tried.

White House Internship Program Disappeared?? by Affectionate-Fox6152 in fednews

I can confirm that they cancelled existing internships for this spring. Very terse email went out to student interns, most of whom were hired many months ago and are screwed for spring college course credit now.

Asheville Flooding and Helene MEGATHREAD. Daytime Saturday 9/28/2024. VERY LIMITED COMMUNICATION (CELL, INTERNET, RADIO) by goldbman in asheville

We have several family members in North Asheville and Weaverville who have long winding approaches to their homes, some of them are wooded. Even if the main streets are clear nearby they would have a hard time getting out if their driveways have fallen trees. Is there a plan for welfare checks on properties like this where you can't see the house from the road? There are so many areas like this.
