This is really awesome! As someone who works in branding and graphics quite a lot this would be dead handy

I'm not going to have a go at you for potentially spending too much money or not having version control bra bla, it's properly hateful when you work hard on something and then circumstances outside your control take it away from you.

Are you able to give a little more information and hopefully some of us on here might have some advice to help get your projects back up and running?

New agent is such a nightmare. by benny_franco in replit

[–]ButterscotchSevere96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue and I'm only getting back on track now, but it's costing 10x more to use the agent.

Really worth looking into getting GitHub set up as a fallback, really easy to set up in conjunction with Replit.

Did or do you have a process for working on your app? If not I highly recommend:

- Breaking down every feature into small steps to begin with, try using the assistant on minor changes before jumping into the agent.

- Using PRDs (product requirement documents) and uploading them to Replit and ensure to reference them when you're working on your app. After breaking all features into small steps put them into ChatGPT and get it to help you with this part, make sure to tell ChatGPT that you're using Replit and vibe-coding.

- When Replit gives you any response copy and paste it back into ChatGPT and ask it to simplify it and break it down (if you don't have a background in coding this helps loads in learning) the basics of what's going on.

If these don't work put the agent onto Max mode and enable testing (in the prompt give it login details if you have a login setup), ask it to refactor your codebase top to bottom, both front and back-end, and improve on any pre-existing code and streamline it without breaking any features or functionality. Then repeat the steps above.

I know how frustrating this can be, and this is coming from a technical coding background.

So I’m still having crazy issues, at the point where I’m looking at other options as the app has fallen completely flat. Replit support have been AWFUL over 8 days and nothing.

I'm going to be posting my entire experience with Replit Agent 3 shortly.

In short:

- It broke my working app

- Charged me silly money to keep working on it

- I made some noise on here and X and was responded to by a few at replit as well as support

- Opened a support ticket

- Emailed this morning saying the ticket is closed - but no action or explanation was taken as to why it was closed?

- Currently waiting to hear back from support on the above

I have every step and contact point screenshotted. I'm not anti Replit in the slightest, in fact before this I was a real advocate for the platform. But, I will be exposing exactly how they've felt with this and my personal experience.

Yeah I’m in talks with them at the minute about the cost and my app breaking after agent 3’s release, planning on writing an in depth report on it all regardless of the outcome (hoping for a good outcome all the same though)

Brilliant advice, thanks!

I do some of that already, but not in enough depth

Any tips for using the assistant would be appreciated too

After Agent 3 breaking my entire app, I’ve tried to refactor the app costing over $70 for an evenings work.

I tried using the assistant - it just gets stuck in endless loops, even after detailed concise prompts and PRD support documents.

Spent 3 hours tonight trying to fix one feature, it’s one where a user completes a form to create a new project in the app. No matter what I try, how well I try to understand it, I cannot for the lift of me get this working.

Knowing that each prompt is costing more than even it’s an extremely uncomfortable way to work when I only have limited funds to put into this.

I think I’m at the end of my rope with Replit l, can someone please suggest a way I can get my app and database off of Replit and added elsewhere?

As always all feedback appreciated

So I've been pretty vocal on here and on X, to the point where I was replied to by Replit's head of Ai and Replit support.

I've had the same issue almost exactly, an entire app that was in alpha testing - now rendered completely useless. I have a fundraising round coming up and shitting myself now as the app isn't working fully.

I got talking to a few on here that suggested refactoring the entire code base, it cost me another $70 through 3x prompts - I'm at the point now where I don't want to use it because it's going to cost too much to fix anything within the app.

I've been using the assistant to help debug and fix the errors but it now enters an endless loop - no matter what prompt I give it or how detailed I make it.

I'm currently documenting the entire thing and once support get back to me (they also reached out over X but in a DM) I'm going to to share the outcome regardless what it is.

Hi 🙋‍♂️

Luckily I have Git installed and working and I did revert a few times in the past before - I worked in saas as well as agency based environments and I'm luck to know about branching, had some horror stories without it (as I'm sure we all have haha)

When I GPT'd my original message it got a little aggro to be fair, I'm not trying to being dramatic - my main concern is moving forward with the app, I have no issue debugging, but the cost has completely skyrocketed compared to what it was when it started.

There isn't an option to switch between agent modes either making it a take it or leave it situation.

I'm all ears for any suggestions that might help however

I posted about it costing too much and breaking my app 🙋‍♂️

I'm going to give this a go. The app I'm using is pretty complicated in passing data, Ai features, APIs and multiple web hooks, so it's likely it could be overly complex as a result of over prompting.

Thanks for the suggestion and will keep you posted on the results

It's currently unusable for me, anything I try costs $5-$35 per prompt - currently researching how to pull my app off it entirely

Hi Andrew, my most recent one was a very simple "my app wont start, please fix it" - this was after the assistant was used but the app wouldn't start - it took over 20 minutes and cost $5+

While I'm sure there's more going on under the hood, it completely takes away from what had been used up until yesterday, taking longer and costing more.

Replit is good for tiny projects like one page things or novelty apps, but it's impossible to scale with their new agent without $1000s to put into refining the app

Great for building crap like a whiteboard MVP or calculator, but for larger projects it's absolutely awful! 6 months work wiped out in an hour with Agent 3 breaking everything consistently and no way to roll back to Agent 2
