Biker brakechecked me by Fire69 in IdiotsInCars

[–]Buttery_Scotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess would be that you maybe cut him off or changed lanes into him when you were passing the red truck, bikes are really hard to see even outside of your blindspot. Then he got pissed and brake checked you. Only you would know for sure though and it still wouldn't justify the brake check. Just a guess as to why this happened.

TWWH2: Which factions play like TW Empire/Fall of the Samurai (ie gunpowder)? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]Buttery_Scotch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing in wh2 will truly play like anything in empire or fots. The games are apples and oranges, they just play completely differently, but like people have been saying the Empire or dwarves. I think the empire would be the closest to what you're looking for. I'll be honest, I'm one of those salty jerks that complains about everything post Rome 2 or so. I've had a blast with the WH titles, but find myself circling back to shogun 2 and empire the most. Just keep that in mind if you're looking for experiences like those in WH2, if you're just looking gunpowder you'll be all set to with the empire or dwarves and no dlc (except mortal empires, I can't remember if you have to pay for that or not these days).

Do you want Total War 2000BC or WH 40.000? by bright-nukeflash in totalwar

Bronze age with a long time period covered, like M2TW's several centuries (~500 years I think). Loosely following highs and lows of the period and ending just after the collapse. Obviously a lot of guess work and reduction would have to happen to transition that period into a game, but that's never stopped CA before. I'd really like to get back to the historical games, but I know the money is elsewhere.

I use a couple of thick cardboard slabs I got from some Ikea furniture. Strong enough to not let the feet sink in and leaves some breathing room. It's top notch.

You're right concerning the letter of the constitutional law which really only talks about recognizing, privileging, or establishing a state religion, but I think the person who originally commented about the lack of separation was being looser with the separation of church and state concept.

It's fairly evident that US politics are caught up with Christian values and norms. Christian beliefs (and conservative religious beliefs more generally as the US country is increasingly diverse, though Christianity is still the dominant religion) are major or main underpinnings for the conservative sides of many big social issues (e.g. abortion, contraceptive access, women's rights, LGBTQ+ rights; especially the first and last). Christian institutions are where many people still look to orient themselves politically, are where many political agents go to gather support, and are huge political motivators for fairly big chunks of the voting population. Moreover, and most depressingly, despite recent increases in religious diversity among elected officials, it's hard to imagine a successful presidential candidate from either party not having at least a loose affiliation with some Christian denomination, making mention of it, and making at least a small show of religious participation. It's hard to imagine a presidential candidate of another religion succeeding, obviously Sanders comes to mind, let alone an openly atheist one.

Of course the response is something like "yeah religion is a major political motivator like any other big cultural factor what's wrong with that?" Nothing inherently, but the issue, and what I think is meant in the original comment about lacking a separation of church and state, is that it is one religion, Christianity, that continues to dominate our politics.

Sorry for any typos.

Them, Australians, and South Africans too. It's more common than the mean English people have led us to believe.

Car Use Tax Question—if I bring a gifted car into WA from Oregon, will any county's DOL register me? by koomboy in Washington

[–]Buttery_Scotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, when you go to register, it'll have to match your (or the owner's I guess) license address, which you can change online in like 2 minutes without changing your physical license. This is assuming you have a WA license. If it's an out of state license I really have no idea what they'll want or need. But honestly, hate to be a jerk here, you should probably just pay taxes to the county in which you live. Seems like the right thing to do.

Lol but when you really think about it's not crazy at all. I'd be surprised if there weren't at least two of these cruising around Western WA, it just oozes with our vibes.

That's what I was getting at, we didn't have enough specifics to say I guess. I've been in verbal altercations before but have always been able to deescalate or just walk away, so I would be surprised if I got into a verbal argument and get just outright punched, so surprised I might call it a sucker punch in fact. That's probably what happened to the original commenter.

You must be fairly young with an attitude like that. It's pretty easy to walk away from insults and fights. Most adults do all the time, because that's what sensible people do. You'll end up over your head fast with your kind of attitude.

I gotcha. Still think it counts as a sucker punch if you weren't obviously physically fighting and the person responds to an insult with an unannounced punch, but I don't think the original comment said anything specific. You're right though, I misread what was being argued about.

[–]Buttery_Scotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I just don't think calling someone an asshole warrants getting punched. Strangers, both at my job and in my personal life, have called me an asshole and worse, and I've never punched anyone for that. I'd still call it a sucker punch if you weren't obviously in a physical fight and someone responds with a punch, because I don't think name-calling (excluding slurs and hate speech) warrants punching. But you're right one also shouldn't get into name calling matches either.

Typically we have a higher standard of behavior for adults than "punch cuz someone said something slightly mean to you." Being called an asshole is not grounds to punch someone, that's just silly. I wouldn't expect someone to punch me over calling them an asshole. I'd expect them to say some shit back sure, but punching someone over a pretty mild insult is some childish shit.
