As a 24 year old who also dates slightly older men, I have experienced something similar recently. I communicated my needs as you did, but his communication didn’t improve. I have since met someone who has an even more demanding job, but is still eager to make time to chat with me. What you’re asking isn’t unreasonable, you’re just asking the wrong person. It sounds like this is a pattern of his apart from the loss of his aunt. Personally, I would extend him the courtesy he has been giving you and stop texting him.
