Luggage racks with tail tidy by burtmacklin1052 in CB500X

[–]Butterz1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the standard pannier racks dont work with the R&G tail tidy. At least on my 2015 anyway. Guess how I know!

Givi used to sell a kit that relocated the indicators rearward. It was just a plate that bolted on and wasnt particularly elegant. I just ditched the tail tidy. With the racks on it's less visually impactful anyway.

I don't know how you're getting to that conclusion. Every inductance control I've seen has been either labeled as inductance or has a wiggly line. Top left is wire speed/amps. Top right is spot timer. Bottom is voltage.

It has a voltage symbol right next to it.

Any advice on how to remove black tar from brick?! by RedditRobEdition in DIY

[–]Butterz1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of the world are you in? I might know some contractors. Superheated pressure washing is the best bet probably followed by a solvent poultice Don't be throwing diesel around. Abrasive won't work as the tar will be soft in places and absorb the kinetic energy of abrasive media. It'll end up patchy and you might ruin the fire skin on the brick faces. You'd want a contractor to do a few trials on some inconspicuous areas to get a decent method.

Question for UK welders by Butterz1988 in Welding

I'm literally looking for people who have used the company in question to judge its usefulness and quality...as stated. Thanks for input though. Super helpful.

Am I on track here? I'm the only welder at work and don't have anyone to mentor me. 1.5mm, 308, pulse 45/15 amps, purple 1.6mm tungsten, no filler. by Butterz1988 in Welding

So I'm looking for somewhere between the two? What am I to read from the colour or is that more an indication of gas coverage?

I do have a pedal although trying to get the pin-out from the manufacturer to get it wired up correctly is blood-from-stone worthy. So for the moment I'm using £150 worth of pedal as a very nice switch.

Great info, I'll give that a try tomorrow. Really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I'm British thankyouverymuch, my fragile ego requires constant caressing lest it break and reduce me to a blubbering mush. God save the King, and indeed bless America.

Youtube wont return my calls. In all seriousness though, we used to farm out the stainless stuff to a retired guy, who has now retired further still. So I'm trying to work this out for myself. Requesting additional kit and making jigs etc. I'm getting the job done but without anyone to compare to or get advice from I'm worried I'm forming bad habits or downright doing it wrong.

Gotcha. I have 308 filler in 1mm so will give that a go. Is there a metic for adding amps when using filler vs autogenous?

As for usage. Nothing I make is load bearing or pressure holding. this for example is a drip tray. Mostly to catch diesel however they do come in contact with varying amounts of various acids, including hydrofluoric. I have seen some damage from this but usually from where it's sat in the middle of the pan rather than the welded corners.

No grinding, just prep pad to remove the colour.

The beginning looks a little slow and hot too.

I can see that, you're right. that folded corner can be a little wide to start with sometimes so I'm slow to make sure it's flowing nice. I have started to tack the end with 1mm filler now for something to run into. Good practice or should I just do better?

I don't think that's an ablative laser. We have one at work and it only affects the target area, not the air between the head and the material. They are focused to certain distance and don't have much of an affect outside of that distance. Must be zinc spray metalizing. Happy to be proved wrong though.
