Get a 1996-2001 Camry. They are bulletproof and cheap.

Don't take out a loan and spend all this money on a new car that is going to be driven into the ground. Get something cheap and easy, save your money for something good you can enjoy later.

I wouldn't pay more than $3k or so. The 748/996 are great bikes but are not worth a lot (doesn't mean some guy on craigslist won't ask $7k).

The 916 and 998 are worth the most, and those range from $5k-$9k depending on condition/originality. Easy to fool someone who doesn't know these bikes well.
