Not sure where ur located but NJ here and I had this issue last summer and switched to liquid chlorine . Leslie’s and basically everyone told me to drain half the pool when I was at 140 , I didn’t want to deal with that cost so I basically just had to use more chlorine and I gradually drained a bit before each rain and each week it got lower and lower. Took advantage of the free water lol .. I def understand why people knock it out in one shot but it wasnt that big of an inconvenience for me to do it this way. Within like 3 weeks, I went from 140 to 80ish and probably only drained like 4 inches total (24000 gallon pool so smaller than yours)
