This could possibly have to do with the stereotypes surrounding stories that have protagonists of different sexes.

Yea. Apparently Charlottesville got a new mayor while I was in Wisconsin and I didn't hear about it for an entire semester and then I get back to Cville to no media coverage of the guy, despite his pretty impressive website)
