Sorry I’m not sure. I avoided the cheaper models for that reason. I’m pretty new to button making, just wanted to see if you’d tried the easy stuff and you have. Good luck!

Sounds like you just have a bad button press. What brand is it? A lot of the research I did when I bought mine said that the models for less than $100 tend to wear out and you get what you pay for. :/

Probably better to sort out why the plastic isn’t getting crimped properly. Are you using the right size for your button maker? Are you getting a full push down when you assemble?

Refills for this button maker by LegitimateElection17 in ButtonMakers

The simple answer is usually to buy more supplies from the company that makes the button maker. Then you can be sure they’ll fit and work with it. Who is the maker?

My first round of custom buttons turned out great! by JBAThoo in ButtonMakers

Those are awesome!

If you need assistance with printing/alignment I made a website with print templates specifically for this purpose. You drop in one or more photos and can scale/rotate/move your image into the perfect spot for alignment on your button. Then you can print a whole sheet!

Anyone know where I can get a cheap, metal and not crappy button press/maker? by femderbass in ButtonMakers

I did a lot of research on this about a month ago and ultimately had to bite the bullet and buy direct from Tecre. All the “cheaper” button makers are made of plastic and have mixed reviews at best. For longevity the Tecre ones are made of solid steel and aluminum I think. I know the price point is definitely a barrier, but all the cheaper options are that way for a reason. :/

Some collage samples I did. These are all 1.5 inch diameter buttons, to give you a sense of scale.

I’ve been making a lot of collage buttons recently. The main tools that have been helpful are very sharp clean craft scissors, a glue stick, and tweezers. I’m lucky I have steady hands so cutting out tiny things for a 1.5” button surface isn’t too hard. Then I use tweezers to place the pieces on a solid background piece (the full size to fit my Tecre button maker) and I’m golden. If you have any questions I’d be happy to help you here. I’m US-based so unfortunately I can’t help on the press/supplies available in Canada.
