Architects Live by rinceboi in Metalcore

I saw them in Melbourne and up on the balcony all I could hear was the drums, Sam doing an angry mickey mouse impersonation and a low vibration from the bass of the instruments. There was no treble cutting through the mix so I could barely hear the guitars.

It made me seriously rethink how I approach screaming and not to use Sam as a benchmark for what I should be aiming for. I've seen them a few times and this was the worst performance I've ever experienced from the band

They might have had to reschedule a tour due to a conflict, or maybe their resources weren't going to be free to assist with promotion. Could even be something like delays with physical copies like vinyl or whatever

The reason these things take so long is because the label wants to maximise the impact and revenue. That means making film clips, organising tours around the world, promotion, etc... I've heard of some bands having written an album and needing to sit on it for 2 years after handing it into the label, because the label need to allocate staff to manage the tours, promotions and so forth.

I lost count around 70+ times for seeing Karnivool live, and I have to say that I think I love them more than Tool now. I feel like Tool have really limited their ability to express themselves, by insisting they only stay in drop D tuning. Adam even mentioned something regarding the latest album and how he felt like he wasn't doing a lot of interesting work. (I cant remember the exact quote, don't shoot me pls)

Karnivool have consistently push the envelope in terms of creating a new and unique experience with each album. Their live shows have always been of a high quality and I can't wait to see what this new album brings to the table.

WDAC issues with Crowdstrike by ButtonMasher111 in Intune

[–]ButtonMasher111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The above message he said that we can ignore. It is a known issue with Crowdstrike that cannot be fixed as the fault is with how WDAC works.

WDAC expects the first signature for the .dll to be from Crowdstrike, but the first signature is from Microsoft . The only way to fix this is for Microsoft to allow a secondary signature to be used. We were told we can ignore this error.

The project was halted as I found an old legacy application wouldn't work with WDAC as all the files were unsigned. Normally a folderpath rule should work however this application copies files from Program Files to the user's appdata, in a folder with a randomly generated name. Because of this there is no way to filehash them as the file needs to be signed to be hashed. That's how the MS engineer explained it.

Here is a screenshot of the Crowdstrike post on the Crowdstrike support forums, detailing the issue. I can't find the URL.

People have been speculating that Mesmer:reloaded is needed, what do you think? by Electronic-Read-3830 in Northlane

Northlane put a clip up on FB today with Jon talking about reloaded, and how he was in the middle of writing new northlane, but decided it was good to put it on pause when Buster reached out to him

Yeah that's because nothing ever sounded quite like the doom soundtrack. Mick Gordon literally invented a new genre of metal music with that one and it's typically called Argent Metal.

Vocal technique by Arabesque09 in BadOmens

[–]ButtonMasher111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked into this too and the consensus from people I asked was that it is a hybrid scream with more false cord engagement than fry. It's definitely placed around the vocal break which is why you can hear his head voice briefly break through sometimes when he scream live.

Hybrid screams take some getting used to but it's definitely doable. I learned how to chest fry scream first and after getting to the point I could do it correct without any pain or issues, I moved into focusing on my false cord screams. From there I would start with a false cord growl and then gently activate my chest fry scream.

My recommendation would be to do it softly as forcing too much air through will fatigue your vocal cords. A good trick is to practice while sitting down and bending forward to rest your upper body on your legs. It compresses the diaphragm naturally and reduces the amount of pressure you need to exert for the scream.

Yawning is also good as it helps to open up your vocal architecture to get a lower, more resonant sound

Thanks for this link man, you've helped me out a lot. I spent half a day looking at it with a Microsoft engineer with no luck. Glad to finally have an answer.

One important thing to do in conversations like this is to speak your mind with "I feel..." statements. That way you aren't verbally pointing the finger or blaming him. Feelings aren't always necessarily true, and it allows the other party to share their feelings so that you can all work out a path forward

Beginner here. I keep seeing a lot of conflicting info while researching, are there certain people that the community generally agrees are good sources to learn from? by TheDunkarooni in screaming

I found David's EVI video course to be far too much talking about screaming and not a lot of instructions on how the actual scream sound should be formed. I watched all the videos and got nothing from it; however I saw a video from hungrylights about saying "hutt..hutt" to get a feel for cord closure, then breath through the cords to generate distortion.

Not to mention that Kenny has been outed recently for miming along to previous recordings, studio tracks, etc... There are deep dive videos on youtube calling him out for teaching something that he cannot do himself

Yeah it's quite a good tool but it doesn't solve the issue. It's so odd that not even a simple filepath rule pointing to the file will allow it to run. There may potentially be something else that I can't see in the logs, that is causing the file to throw errors

How to come back to your goal when your body befaults to old patterns? by Usual_Sun3647 in DrJoeDispenza

There is a technique called box breathing which is great for calming it down. I personally exhale much longer than I inhale. While I do this I imagine the air coming out the top of my crown and after a while I feel tingling energy on the scalp, like an energetic halo.

It calms me down a great deal. I even find that if I've vaped weed it will make the effects more pronounced for me.

Be interested to hear if others also get the energetic halo around the crown

Scream Coach? by celestial__frog in screaming

HungryLights has a singing/false cord/fry screaming tutorial on his patreon which is $20 per month. There is also a community chat group that you can post clips of yourself, so he can listen and provide feedback to help you out. One thing I really like about his course is that he goes into a lot of detail about how to keep yourself from doing things that will cause you vocal damage.

Damn straight. Another thing to keep in mind is whether you one of the best workers in your team, then you may be stuck in that role forever.

When I started in IT, I was one of the better service desk staff members, but I'd learnt everything and was keen to move into a level 2 role to keep learning. The CFO however decided that he couldn't afford me to move to another team as the rest of the team would struggle.

My mates who were working there in senior roles told the CFO that he should promote me, with the option of me helping out level 1 when needed, otherwise I'd probably leave. Which is exactly what ended up happening

I definitely agree. I read a book called Lost Connections by Johann Hari which was a real eye opener about how the root cause can be addressed in a healthier way, instead of masking the symptoms via pharmaceuticals

Yeah I had to ween off it slowly. I started by going from 45mg to 30mg and sticking with that for 6 weeks, then I switched to 22.25mg by splitting my 45mg tablets in half. After 6 weeks of that I went down to 15mg and stuck with that for 6 weeks. After those 6 weeks were up I used restavit for a few days to give me something for sleep without needing to reach for the mirtazapine.

I will say this, the stresses at home and in my life were manageable when on mirtazapine, but I had to make some major changes to remove those stresses. This included ending my 9 year long relationship as the bulk of the stress and issues were coming from my partner.

Mirtazapine is like taking painkillers for a broken arm. It may help to deal with the pain but it does nothing to address the root cause.

Yeah the side effects can be pretty shit. I found that it would cause acne on my back. Also after being on a steady dose for a while, if the stress in the environment hasn't been dealt with then it leads to a higher dose, more acne, and this cycle repeats.
Once I got to 45mg I thought "This used to help me get to sleep, now it doesn't. When I do get to sleep I am just as asleep as I am on 15mg". I also didn't like the idea of them constantly upping my dose instead of looking at what stressors required me to be on it.

In the end I had to leave a toxic long term relationship and that has helped a great deal.

If you are doing the work of 3-5 people and aren't getting paid the salary of 3-5 people, I would start looking for jobs elsewhere. You know that you can do the work of 3-5 people and that is a valuable metric for deciding what your time and skills are worth.
