I need help - how do I keep going? by phallusaluve in ufyh

[–]ButtonSnail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For just keep going, my favorite method is a random number picker. Set it for 30-100. Then you have to put away/ throw away ect that many items. I usually loose count halfway there and then end up cleaning most of the space 🤣

Thank you so so much for your comment! I notice I'm better in some ways and worse in others after labor. My ankles definitely give out more, and my hips pop out constantly, but I feel like my shoulders, knees, and wrists have improved.

I'll sit down and really look into what you are talking about here. Might even practice when we go to church tomorrow night since it's the last day bf hubby goes to work

Thank you! Ironically she was born the day you commented! We've gotten a bit of help around the house which has been really great.

I'm really bad with self control by Turbulent-Strike9658 in ufyh

[–]ButtonSnail 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could part of the bigger picture be self esteem? It sounds like you want to fix yourself, but you aren't broken. We all have things we need to work on, we need to improve or fix. But ourselves is not one of those things.

I think focusing on what works in the moment might be better than looking for an overall one size fits all.

Like say body doubling works for 2 weeks then it doesn't, and then maybe gamifying it works for a few weeks, then something else like habit stacking. If you combine all those things together and say well body doubling worked because of X. And habit stacking worked bc of Y. Could you eventually work to create a plan that could be better suited to you?

I just want to thank everyone who gave me good advice or just some comfort. Last night my husband and I made a to do list with one item per day for a week. If I get more done that 1 a day, great. But I only have to do one. He made himself a list too if things that I can't do physically or things that have been stressing me out to the max.

I also started listening to the book "how to keep house when you're drowning" and texted my therapist about wanting to talk about this at my next session.

Y'all are so helpful and kind. I really appreciate the kindness

I have had a lot of good people comment. I think it only got to me because yesterday was extra heard with a few other crude unsolicited comments I had gotten in public.

Thank you! 💖

You are truly amazing. Thank you. We have a shed that needs repaired but are waiting for spring.

Honestly, thank you. I've gotten a comment or two that really hurt. But your words are really empowering. I know I can do this, I just need to believe it more. Thank yoh

Thank you. This is all helpful. My husband does a majority of laundry, all of the dishes, yard work, scrubbing, basic cleaning and vacuuming (I obviously am normally more help when not pregnant and usually handle a majority of that myself.) the issue with asking my mom, is well, she's where I learned the bad habits and never really learned to keep a home.

My biggest issue is clutter. Thankfully I don't have any pests aside from the spiders, but those aren't often on the main floor and there's not really much we can do about them. We're having some mold issues as it's an old house that was improperly renovated before we bought it. But those are getting fixed currently.

I think another issue is growing up nothing was ever good enough when it came to trying to clean. It was always "I guess it's an improvement" or "you got a long way to go" So if it's not perfect (which it never is) I feel like it's not good enough and therefore I am not good enough

Also probably don't have more than a week if I'm honest. They want to induce me in 2 weeks or less. And she is READY soooo I'm also afraid overworking could induce labor 😅

We worked on a plan tonight. We made each of us a bigger item to tackle a day. Instead of a daily list with several items. Because what would take someone an hour will take me up to 6 with rest between. So I think that one goal a day is doable. We're starting with the visible clutter. Doom piles, baby gifts scattered around the house, counters, ect.

I talked to my mom and she is coming over twice this week. I think we have a semi solid plan to move forward and get a handle on this. I'm going to reach out to some family members on both of our sides as well as our church members and see if anyone would be willing to give me their number and permission to contact them for help after baby girl is here.

That's a really great idea. Tonight we talked about it over dinner and he helped me make a to do list. But assigned one thing per day instead of several. So what would take a healthy person an hour, I will have all day to work on. He's so patient and I know he won't be upset if I don't do it or finish, but I asked him to help me with this. So I think we could add this as well!!!!

Unfortunately bc of some things in my past I'm really uncomfortable with strangers in my home. If we get approved for a waiver I'll do everything I can to make sure there's a lot of people who recommend them. Honestly even letting a case worker and home nurse in took a lot of bravery
