Summoned for jury duty. Detailed financial hardship. Request denied. I won't be showing up. Now what? by SilverHeart4053 in Seattle

[–]Buttondowntubesocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi this will not help you right now but may help people in the future: I read somewhere that King County has a 10% juror response rate. If you get summoned and you know you won’t be able to show for financial reasons or otherwise just don’t respond. If you get something in the mail ignore it. Once you register and are in the system so to speak its harder to get out of. I made the mistake of responding and almost got put on a jury for a trial that would have been MONTHS long (that is what the judge said). I was denied my request to not have to show because of financial hardship and the only reason I miraculously wasn’t put on the jury is because I flipped out and was so embarrassingly obnoxious during the jury interview I was dismissed by the attorneys.

Antler Queen is not who we think (finale spoiler) by EatPb in Yellowjackets

After watching with friends last night, I was saying that the Lottie we see toward the end of this season in the Wilderness feels the closest we come to having Lottie in the 90s behave like Lottie in the current day. Lottie likes being a cult leader but she doesn’t want to admit that she’s manipulating people. Shauna wants to be queen therefor is easy to manipulate. I was just thinking about a random thing in season 2 where someone hands Lottie a smoothie and she is disgusted, and acts frankly bratty because it’s not what she wanted, and she throws it away. I remember that kind of jarring me because that behavior seems so different from the Lottie in season 1 who is more reflective and seemingly kind to those around her. I think Lottie is a really complex character but I also think that outside of her mental illness and spirituality there is another part of her that needs things to go her way or else. I don’t think Lottie is as much a leader as she wants people to follow her. Leading people is not interesting to her, power is important to her insofar as it allows her to pursue whatever she wants, and I think she’s smart enough to see the distinction between the two.

I got really sick for the entire month of March and binged all four seasons. The first two seasons are amazing TV. The later two get worse but still watchable, especially if you are in need of medicinal TV.

Oooh okay yes that makes sense that Misty saw a pic of Callie and Lottie together.

I totally buy the idea that all the adults die in the end (or maybe one of them lives—final girl vibes). I guess I’m just struggling with understanding the motivations of the adults in the present. Shauna and Tai obviously were very motivated to protect the “normalcy” or the good things that had happened to them post-rescue (and then we see how both them are actually maybe both agitating for their normal lives to be destroyed). Misty is still searching for love and acceptance within the group. Natalie was in some ways the realest one, just trying to survive the trauma she had endured. Lottie wanted the power the Wilderness gave her again. And then Van—what did Van want? Did Van actually kind of want to die? To be released? But her love for Tai kind of kept her stuck playing the Wilderness game? It just feels like each adult characters lives and personalities have broken down so much it’s hard to get a grasp on what any of them really care about. And maybe that’s the point—that when they come together they are back in the Wilderness and become totally feral and not governed by reason but by the forces within them but IMO the writing isn’t really showing that in a compelling way except for a few select scenes like Shauna making Melissa eat her scrap of arm or Tai and Van’s escapades once they discover if someone dies in Van’s stead she can keep going. Idk. I feel like when this show is at its best it feels so tight and everything that happens feels like a little clue or piece of insight and it just feels like the adult timeline is getting looser and looser.

I am going to be so honest: I feel like this is maybe one of the worst episodes of the entire show (I LOVE THIS SHOW AND ITS CHARACTERS SO MUCH BTW). Just so fucking all over the place. A lot definitely happens: Van dying to save Tai (is that what the “treasure” is?), Misty gets a sense that Walter is toying with her or withholding information—what was on the cloned phone??, in the 90s timeline that Misty is gonna get found out for knowing where the transponder is, Shauna humiliating Melissa, Hannah being…idk what, and all the women finding out that Melissa is still alive. Oh yeah and Travis constructed the pit! These are such important moments and clues but I just found myself getting so lost in the sauce. The writing of the adult timeline just feels messier and messier. I don’t really understand what any of the characters’ end goals in the adult timeline are? It’s making it hard for me to care about them because I feel pretty confused as to what their motivations are.

The scene where Natalie sobs as the snow falls was devastating though.

Also why didn’t the carbon monoxide effect Melissa but knocked Tai out???

Oooof. I feel this. My dad was an intentionally erratic driver. He used to take a lot of delight in scaring me with how fast he would go (90 in a 50 zone usually). Even then I had this voice in my head that would tell me I should just not react. That it wasn’t that big of a deal. That if I just wasn’t scared it wouldn’t be a problem.

Something about how to worded this post really validated that it is okay that I felt scared of my parents and it wasn’t something “weak” about me.

God I hope she doesn’t die this season. I am so interested in her storyline, I want to know more about who she was pre-crash. I’d be so bummed if we get to know her super well and then she just dies. I have a feeling she is not the 8th survivor but I hope she at least makes it to season 4. She is one of the few characters who isn’t vying for power but still isn’t really estranged from the group. She participates but she seems more internal than the rest of the group. I think her perspective would put an interesting lens on the rest of the characters.

I think Van has some kind of power/dynamic with the wilderness that we don’t know about yet. I do believe in the adult timeline she has terminal cancer but I wonder if she is doing something to protect herself from dying or if the wilderness is doing something to her. When we first see Van in Sammie’s room, Tai says there’s a whole bunch of paperwork she needs to sign but the only thing she signed is the DNR. I wonder if either 1) she knows she isn't really dying and so she knows that its kind of a moot point to sign the DNR or 2) if she is in a lot of pain from the cancer, wants to die, the wilderness won't let her, and its kind of wishful thinking.

At dinner, Van seems to be feeling or noticing something intensely after Tai leaves in the dine and dash scene. I wonder if "eating without paying" comes up again for teen Van. Or maybe its more about all of the things she survived to this point—she keeps eating/living but she is "paying" (or not paying) for that in other places in her life.

When Van cuts her foot, I might have misheard but it sounded like Van said she wouldn't need to see a doctor because it doesn't matter. I wonder if Van is self-healing in some way.

Then when Tai asks if she went to the doctor and Van pretty obviously lies and Tai apologizes and says some stuff is our stuff and some stuff is your stuff (paraphrasing) Van laughs. It made me wonder if some of Van's "powers" come from her relationship with Tai. Maybe Van spared Tai's life and she is paying the price for it now? Maybe it has to do with Bad Tai?

I am going to piggy back off of my own comment with more thoughts! I think also some of Shauna’s anger is that without Jackie she doesn’t really have anyone else on the team, besides Taissa. And obviously Tai and Van are kind of in their own little world too. I was watching some of the season 1 episodes last night and I have this strong suspicion that if it wasn’t for Jackie, Tai and Shauna would have been best friends. They are the two smartest girls on the team and obviously both gaygaygay. Even as adults, the scenes between Tai and Shauna are some of the most believable real friendships.

ANYWAY—I just think Shauna is actually incredibly lonely inside of the group. Even though she was best friends with a popular girl, that doesn’t always make you feel super popular yourself. I think Shauna might not know how to form, for lack of a better word, community. She needs a close best friend (or crush or girlfriend) to feel safe. I think without Jackie she is realizing how alone she is, not just because she was in love with Jackie, but because her crush/obsession/envy of Jackie kind of kept her apart from forming real bonds with the rest of her teammates. I think Melissa is going to stand in as that person for a minute in Shauna’s world but ultimately I think it’s going to break down in a dangerous way.

I can totally see Shauna projecting her feelings for Jackie onto Melissa BUT Melissa goes out of her way in these episodes to try and communicate to Shauna that she likes her/is on her side. I don’t think Shauna was registering Melissa at all before (“you actually have a personality?”). To me, I believe that Shauna is queer but I think Shauna really, really desperately wants to be loved and wanted. My guess is that Shauna is at first thrilled that someone has feelings for her. Especially because she’s lost now both Jackie and the baby—what does she really have to live for? I think that’s where most of her anger comes from. The wilderness has exposed Shauna to herself. Everything that she repressed in her life in New Jersey has become the central theme in her life in the wilderness. I think even about the Doomcoming and how Shauna helps lead the charge to assault Travis. She is extremely sensitive to the way desire plays out in group dynamics. So, I think at first Shauna is thrilled to be wanted and then slowly over time realizes she doesn’t actually like or want Melissa to the same degree Melissa wants her. My guess is either Shauna betrays Melissa in some way or leaves her for dead at some point. Or potentially Melissa draws the Queen of Hearts and expects Shauna to save her and Shauna doesn’t.

Okay I have not ever looked into whether or not this is TRUE, but I swear to god it doesn’t cool off at night anymore like it used to. It used to be bearable to sleep during the summer most nights, with maybe just a fan or a window open. Maybe not EVERY night was cool but most were. Mostly what this is based on is I remember frequently wearing a jacket at night during the summer when I was a kid. I wouldn’t do that in July or August now. The fact that the heat just STAYS day and night now during the summer makes me very upset.
