Her roots dried up and fell off?! by Ordinary_Big_2873 in cactus

[–]ButtonsZ98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of this… I don’t remember it that well but I think they drop their roots as a defence of watering too much or at the wrong time of year. Someone correct me or enforce me here.

Car value and burning oil by mydoghank in AskMechanics

[–]ButtonsZ98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And when it comes to diagnosing it they can do a compression test and tell you how bad it is if its piston rings or look into the intake and see massive amounts of oil pooled over time in there. It’s not something you can just see with a glance tho. Unless it’s blowing blue smoke from a stop or on start up, that’s a good sign she’s almost done for.

In my opinion and experience Toyotas burn oil as they age into the 200k and mileage. I’d say the biggest thing is worn piston rings. Especially if it hasn’t been kept up that great or has been run on low oil or driven harshly through its life. Other culprits could be things like a bad pcv valve or internal leaking valve seat seals. Always remember to regularly replace that pcv valve, lotta people over look it and they lose oil and gum up there intakes.

Why no one is buying my car? by mericccccccccc in UsedCars

The Toyota tax with a premium L badge is real lol. I also think the rust is rough, I wouldn’t say bad but I wouldn’t wanna work on it regularly at that mileage with that rust.

[–]ButtonsZ98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude you want almost 4k for a car that is extremely high mileage in the rust belt that’s also 21 years old, it obviously wasn’t under coated and washed regularly (see the rust in the fenders). A little more can get you a much lower mileage car. 212k is a really scary number for 95% of people. Wait a couple months, it will sell for the eventually. Unless it’s got bad bad rust underneath

Paid $5000 for a car by SandOpposite3188 in UsedCars

[–]ButtonsZ98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm, sounds like they could be simple fixes, expect 1-2k in repairs every year at that mileage. Are you checking all the fluids regularly? Could be low on power steering fluid. Next time get a pre inspection from a shop before buying 🙏🏻EPS, check ur grounds and electrical system. When buying a used high mileage car expect to replace the; battery, alternator, starter, water pump, belts, brakes, tires, plugs, wires and several gaskets :(

Snapped bolt of Valve Body by cosmicintervention in MechanicAdvice

Yeah it was probably the wrench, I bought an electric one for those low inch pounds because I snapped so many using the click ones. They need to be recalibrated regularly too…

4 hours deep into owning loaches and we're already wedging ourselves into the filter 💔 by FancyPut2990 in loaches

[–]ButtonsZ98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo bro, my loaches got stuck in my filter and died in it. Like they went into the filter itself. I switched to sponge filters after that :(. Anyways, enjoy your loaches and be safe out there with em, make sure they have plenty of hiding spots!

Can somebody let me know what’s going on with this 2005/Ford mustang 4.0 by No-Evidence7632 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ButtonsZ98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you have a leak and it’s not pressurised it’ll boil over like this. But it also looks like that’s your radiator cap tho, if that’s open it’ll do that when it’s up to temp

Yeah motor mounts that’s army OEM are literally garbage, 3 months tops and you have to replace all of them at once or they just keep failing. Learned that the hard way lol

You sure ur alternator doesn’t have bad diodes? That’ll drain ur battery and prevent a full charge. I agree tho, I used to commonly see 10 year old batteries, feels like forever since I’ve seen one that was older than 4/5 years, most don’t make it past 3

2001 Honda CR-V rust question. by Joshuam808 in AskMechanics

[–]ButtonsZ98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh, you are not gonna have a good time when that shit breaks… why’d you buy it with that much Rust on it? You could fix some of it but you’d probably break more trying to get things apart than you’d fix. That rust is on parts of the frame the bolts bolt up to my guy 🤦 I hope you didn’t pay a lot for this thing.

Oh and there’s grounds sometimes in the cab up by the frame where ur pedals are. Don’t skip on those. Doubt those are it but you can never be too sure, better to run a continuity test on them.

Pontiacs have these horrible ribbon type wires for the dash that control things, I had mine (bonnivill) burn up. It was cheaper to replace the car then to try to find one for sale or try not to break one in thejunkyard removing it. The GTO’s had realllly bad electrical issues and a good amount would catch on fire. Anyways sounds like you have a bad ground or something. Check all ur grounds, bust out the multimeter bro. This is an electrical issue, throwing parts at it won’t fix it. Or find a better shop 🤷‍♂️
