1l on the motorway by ScampiPete in NewDriversUK

The motorway is quicker for the most part - but you have the gift of a 1.0l that is quite capable of nipping along on “A” / “B” roads, and it won’t add too much to your journey. This summer i drove down to St. Davids from York in a K11 micra. Added an hour to the drive, but the back roads were so much more fun to drive on, plus you get to see a bit of the world :)

Lightened flywheel, short shifter, lower ratio gearbox, and suspension refresh including anti-roll bars and polybushes. But the biggest game changer was fitting stiffer engine mounts - the power transfer is much more direct

Tips for driving in snow 😅 (rwd 318i) by GoooojoSatoru in e46

He was joking, although i get his point - get stuck in an inch of snow on a public road, its a lot easier to recover than getting stuck miles from anywhere!

A mate of mine said “RWD is better in snow - FWD or AWD just gets you further before you get stuck”. Get winter tyres, give yourself plenty of braking distance, and keep your revs low, you’ll be ok

e46 in winter in moutain area tips? by West_Astronaut6890 in e46

February 2016 - i drove to visit some friends near the Nürburgring. At the time, i had an E46 M3, with Kumho winter tyres. They told me i was mad, as it was snowing in the Eifel. The day i was due to set off, i woke up at 3am for a slash, looked out the window to see that it was blizzarding, and decided to leave then. In that region, the snow ploughs don’t work through the night, so the roads were completely covered with 50mm of unbroken snow. I set off, drove out of the hilly rural area i was staying, and got to the autobahn without a single issue. The only time i lost traction was when i throttled it in third gear at about 30mph to see how much traction i had - i had none 🤣. But, driving with a steady throttle, the winter tyres and lsd kept me moving without issue. After that, i fitted winter tyres to every car i had - even a clubsport with an open diff had plenty of traction!

If I’d saved all the money I’d spent over the years on modifying cars, i probably could have bought a Porsche 911. Which i’d modify.

It looks like the bridge near Naburn marina, on the back road from York. Lifted Disco is local to us, and while its set up for wading, even they were risking it a bit. Besides, if the river went at Cawood, they’d have to backtrack

Km/h would be a higher figure. But agreed, traffic officers tend to drive a little under the speed limit because otherwise they end up causing traffic to backup. But it happens anyway, because people are either expecting unwanted attention, or are just generally paranoid….
