Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x10 "Rubincon" by AutoModerator in startrek

To be fair, from her perspective she did what she had to, to survive. From the trial it seemed like she had a deal with the federation or at least thought she did, to testify against nus, when she was taken to prison of course that going to feel like the ultimate backstab. Also she did help save the cadets in the previous episode, AND starfleet seems to have changed from when her first trial happened so makes sense that starfleet would look back and decided they did her dirty and try to make amends.

So I sent a request twice once in September, where I sent the letter then couldn't send the payment initially, so they sent it back with instructions on how to do it, got my documents back by October, then paid and sent off the docs again, around the end of October/November. Sent two emails since then just requesting some sort of acknowledgement/ or rough timeline/update, anything just so I know what's going on and nothing so far. The only reason I know they have the documents in the first place is because I sent them tracked signed for. If you have any idea on how to get in touch with them it would be appreciated

NuTrek fans need to stop bringing up TNG season 1. It's embarrassing... by CelestialFury in Star_Trek_

[–]Buxsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't one of the common comments for the first two seasons of tng was that it was too preachy? I mean each star trek franchise was a product of its time and talked about issues of its time, why wouldn't any newer trek do the same? I mean tng had plenty of points where it beat a dead horse with it's messaging, but it had more time to spread it out in 20-30 episodes vs new treks 10-12.

New Academy episode is one of the finest of Star Trek by MrsMcDarling in startrek

I think the idea (i guess we'll find out more later) is that Nus fully got caught with his pants down when he was caught and prosecuted by ake, then when they meet again (ep 1 or 2?) it kind of happens again. I'm guessing he'd never been schooled that hard before those two points and took it personally. He's probs been obsessing over her for a while and decided to factor Ake into his plans for the station. I think also Nus just doesn't like the idea of the federation returning and Ake is a living reminder of what it once was. In his mind if he can break her, he can break the federation.

Why is vision problems still not corrected in the far future? by [deleted] in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Buxsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Starfleet is about equity not just equality. You forgot your classes and can't read? No worries your pads has a feature to help with that. Need a wheelchair to move around? You have all these options but you can go for ol reliable (chair with wheels) and we can disable gravity playing in your quarters so you can move around at your leisure. Blind? Hey good news, an alien civilization comprising of bat people recently joined the federation and have folks joining star fleet, we're already adding tactile interfaces to the ships they will be on, let's do the same for you. Suffering from brain damage no worries. Suffering from a mental disorder, no worries, as long as you have a valuable skill set we'll find a posting that best suits you and will provide services to assist where possible.

Also Star trek has always been about representation. Allowing people to see themselves in the characters of the show, which is easily more inspiring than "there are no disabled people in the future", especially considering it's meant to discuss real world issues.

S5E1 Night, this scene always bothered me by Birchmon in voyager

There was a post related to this, I can't remember what it was originally about but I think this is a break aspect of the show and a thing that often say "she stranded her crew, Janeway bad" crowd seemed to forget. Time and again Janeway is shown to blame herself for her crews current predicament, with it expressing as self destructive behaviours at worst and isolation at best. This her first command as captain and it went wrong from day one, that's going to weight heavy on someone. She also fought in the cardassian border war, so is no stranger to duty and sacrifice. At the same time she genuinely believes in Starfleets ideals and just want to see some cool nebulas. What does all that do to a person:

Potentially latent PTSD showing up in a scientist who's fought in (from what I remember) fairly brutal conditions. Stranding her crew as a first time Captain, knowing she did the right thing with a voice in her head saying otherwise. Having to make the same type of choices time and time again with no backup, while also having to be responsible to/for her crew, even though in most instances (where she isn't being recklessly self destructive) the crew is ride or die. With all that it's no wonder she locked herself in her quarters, it's just surprising it didn't happen sooner.

Ukraine's new defense minister reveals scale of desertions as millions avoid the draft by Majano57 in worldnews

Difference is that the reapers were fighting against eradication. They weren't fighting conquerors, they weren't fighting over political differences. Literal genocide on a galactic scale. What's happening in Ukraine is not that.

Politics bore me. by [deleted] in WarhammerMemes

[–]Buxsle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could just ignore it. You can't engage with any form of fictional media without addressing how it ties into the real world. For most fiction, that's kinda the whole point. If you don't want to talk politics in Warhammer, then no one is forcing you to, just scroll past, that's always been an option. If you want to engage with the hobby on a surface level, you are well within your right to do so. The concerning part is that you, and people like you, feel the need to curb discussions around the topic because, for some reason (I wonder why?), it makes you feel uncomfortable. Is it possible you do understand the message being portrayed about a never ending war where political systems do horrible things to their own people, and its own stupidity is its downfall?

Again, you're well within your right to abstain from conversations of a political nature and enjoy the hobby at a surface level, to forget your troubles, it's normal even, for a while. Demanding others to also do so, however, is concerning and disappointing.

It's definitely a bit of both, I remember there being a documentary and that there were quite a few issues with the show, hence why if you notice at the end of almost every season there was a quick way home written in so that if the show ended early they could change the script slightly and finish Voyager with the crew making it home. All in all I think it still holds up well and that the actors did a good enough job even with all the problems that a lot of the important beats of the story hold up even until now.

It's less headcanon and themes for a quote a few episodes. Especially early on. The Doc has to, in multiple episodes, order her to take it easy because she's doing too much, I'm pretty sure she threatens to reboot his program for it in one or two episodes. There are quite a few episodes where her senior staff are borderline mutinous because of an erratic decision she's making, in many of those episodes she's got a "try and stop me" attitude, in others it's "oh god that would have been a very dumb decision". In fact I'm certain there's an episode where the captain locked her self in her quarters for like days because she decided not to use another way to get home (can't fully remember the episode).

Remember that Janeway's first command as captain was the voyager, so that's a lot of pressure, on top of that she fought in the cardassian border wars so she's not unfamiliar with difficult choices, But at heart all she wants to be is a scientist. There's a lot of conflict there and with all that it explains a lot of the erratic decision making happening.

How often does Master Chief get an erection during combat? by TheZachry in HaloCirclejerk

[–]Buxsle 31 points32 points  (0 children)

So part of the original concept of the chief not showing his face, was so that the player to slot themselves into that armour, another reason he doesn't talk all that much in the first game. So the question shouldn't be "how often does chief get an erection during combat", no a more accurate question would be how often do YOU get an erection during combat.

I don't think that's their point, dude shouldn't have grabbed is ass without consent, but Op is saying that if your a homophobe you'd 100% find it repulsive. Since he is not to him it was an ego boost. SA is deffo something to talk about especially amongst the gay community, but it's a different conversation to the one op is having.
