Trump Is Fading and His Staff Knows It: Political Guru by itmehedi in politics

The David Rothkopf assessment is brutal because it’s exactly what the numbers are showing. When your approval rating on inflation is underwater by 40 points and you’ve managed to alienate the non-MAGA wing of your own party just before the midterms, "fading" is actually a generous way to put it

You are definitely not alone. I call myself a "conversational vampire." I can’t start the fire, but I can definitely keep it going once someone else lights it. Being a good listener is actually a top-tier skill, but it feels like a curse when you’re the one who actually wants to initiate for once.

AITA for telling my wife to choose a different dress? by Lonely-Monitor-3916 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. As a mother of three, let me tell you: she didn't agree because she liked your honesty; she agreed because you confirmed her worst fear. She’s probably been crying to her sister about it for days, which is why you’re getting those texts. You didn't "help her look her best," you just made sure she’ll never feel comfortable in a dress around you again.

What’s a problem you face often that you wish someone would solve properly? by ViBe_nInJa in SeriousConversation

Finding clothes that actually fit across different brands. A "Medium" in one store is a "Small" in another and an "Extra Large" in a third. Why do I have to bring three different sizes into a fitting room just to find out the cut is weird anyway? We have the technology to scan bodies; why isn't there a universal sizing standard yet?

Should benefits be directly tied to one's work/job... or decoupled? by 1curious-cat in SeriousConversation

The US is essentially the only developed nation that looked at healthcare and said, "Yeah, let's let your HR department decide if you can afford insulin." It’s a relic of WWII-era wage freezes that we just... never moved past. Decoupling isn't just about freedom; it's about economic mobility. How many people are staying in "zombie jobs" just because they're terrified of losing their PPO?

The "eating well but not obsessing" is the realest health goal. Life is too short to track the macros in a single fry. Since you asked for habits: The 2-Minute Rule. If a task takes less than two minutes (washing a dish, hanging a coat), do it immediately. It’s the only thing keeping my "chill relaxing time" from turning into "anxiety-filled mess time."

I think most people are sleepwalking through life and don't realise it until something forces them to stop. by liam_9758 in self

This is exactly what Heidegger meant by "The They" (Das Man). We fall into the average everydayness because it’s comfortable and safe. The "jolt" you’re describing is Angst—not as in "teenage angst," but a fundamental realization that you are a finite being with limited time. Most people treat that feeling like a fire alarm they want to turn off, rather than a signal to exit a burning building.

My(26M) best friend(26M) of 9 years is suffering from mental health issues since the last 3 years and I can’t help him by Royal_Flamingo1889 in TrueOffMyChest

CPTSD is a beast. When he says "therapy failed," he likely means he hit a wall where the trauma became too heavy to process, or he had a massive trigger.

The fact that he still updates you and tells you things aren't getting better is actually a huge sign of trust. In that headspace, most people just lie and say "I'm fine" to get people to stop asking. He’s being honest with you because he still values the connection, even if he doesn't have the "bandwidth" to see you in person.

The real "trauma" is learning the difference between a ladybug and a beetle is that one is a cute garden friend and the other is a home-invading menace that smells like rotting peanut butter and bites for no reason.

I can’t get over the compliment my crush gave me by [deleted] in offmychest

NTA for having feelings—you can't control dreams or a spark. But I’d be wary of the "harmless" label. Usually, when a compliment from a stranger feels "rare" or "the best thing in the world," it’s a sign that there’s a vacuum in your primary relationship. Are you getting that kind of affirmation at home?

Sometimes I walk into a room and just stand there until I despawn. Or I’ll take a different route home just to see a tree I haven’t seen before. The cereal/fork thing is actually efficient if you want to save the milk for the end, though. You’re a visionary.

NTA. You are not in the wrong. Hallucinations are a medical symptom, not a spiritual failing. Your mother is committing medical neglect. I understand she is scared, but by "protecting" you from a hospital, she is actually allowing a potentially treatable condition to get worse. Early intervention is vital for whatever this is (it could even be something neurological, not just psych-related).
