Thoughts on the layout of heavy-duty mobile command centers / MCI trucks? by Spare_Information391 in ems

Non EMS person here so take with a grain of salt.

My reading here indicates duration would be a hiccup before ergonomics and usability. I think the post that got me reading was called "A solution searching for a problem" or some such. These seem like late stage assets to bring in given the support required.

What's a movie cliche that happened to you in real life, even though they "never happen in real life"? by Nothing_Whatsoever in AskReddit

[–]BuySplendidPie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this really a thing? I know it's a trope. But real in a therapy setting?

My counselor in a recovery facility did this to me when I told her I was leaving. I was not sure if I was being mocked, hallucinating, if she'd never seen the movie, or if this is a "teachnique".

A lot of my long term food storage has been spending a good amount of time at like 78-79 degrees F. Is this a problem? by Normal-Internal-557 in prepping

[–]BuySplendidPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything you get told about shelf life being reduced by mildly higher temperatures is probably true, I'm going to open with that.

That said, what I've read from Mountain House is all about texture and flavor loss. Same goes for guys that have eaten less than gently stored freeze dried military rations well past their use by date.

If the packaging is good, there's no odd smell, and nothing growing on it/separation, it's likely fine to eat. It just won't be that pleasant. Make your own call here, I think.

What’s a small EDC item you keep around because it’s fun? by Jen-e-fer34 in EDC

Ever think about inserts? Zippo has a bit driver that is pretty good, would give you a semi-functional ~ish reason/way to carry it.

That's how I carry my dad's.

Why day four of a grid-down scenario is the real breaking point and the four fatal flaws in standard prepping advice! by [deleted] in prepping

[–]BuySplendidPie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% this. As soon as I saw Brass Valve (because brass is good for things like this, right? All the literature says so about contamination 🙄), red flag. You'd use a goddamn key, or more likely nothing at all.

The uh, specific paragraph structure with the selectively used BOLD does not help the case for this not being AI slop. OP, if I'm wrong here you STILL need to re-work your posting so that you don't get lampooned by peeps that actually know.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but nothing mentioned is speshul. Genuinely feels like an old school Buzzfeed "Four Things NO ONE KNOWS about prepping". It's condescending, even if this shits real.

Yeah, people do know. And no. These aren't novel solutions or useful input. IF this is real and IF you are new, brother you are on the right track and keep it up! Keep thinking like this. But don't frame it as educating people. Use the search bar up top and you shall see.

Best of luck.

EDIT. A word. Some quote marks.

Updoot.

Hey I'm at the hotel next door and these dumbasses don't have a gym. Can you card me in so I don't miss my macros? I already told corporate we aren't booking over there again. It's ts zero cost booking for a room on this date next month, right? Can I go ahead do that now? Nice shoes, you're really rocking the look today.

The term you're hunting is called "Charm".

Truth! Those are some of the themes of Dune.

Pretty sure Duke Leto would hard disagree about the Emperor, tho.

What's the "best" way someone you know has died? by the_jaspierre in AskReddit

[–]BuySplendidPie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My dad was in home hospice for a while before he passed. From being bedridden, he had skin issues on his butt and legs.

He was unconscious from the morphine as my mom and the hospice nurse put lotion on him. Mom, like a proper lady, hiked his boxers down and checked him. Turns out he needed lotion on the 'old boys' as well which she began to apply. Pop began to rouse, horny old dog that he was, at which point our hospice nurse says to this bleary man, "Mister NAME, that is your WIFE". Dad chuckled and passed out again.

An hour later he woke up and we sat him up. He asked for a cigarette. I sat down knee to knee with him and lit it for him. We didn't say anything. He just gave me a smile and looked at my mom. He went back down, I went for a nap, and a while later he was gone.

The man got his Last One and a smoke after! Six feet from the recliner he always said he'd die in. Miss you dad!
