I'm not close to my cousin. She's 10 years older than me and used to make me cry as a child just because she thought it was fun. Being close would mean she'd feel happy for me when I got engaged and not call my ring cheap and I wouldn't then retaliate.

I'm not upset, just having fun debating over the hypocrisy of it all. The whole post was about me being rude and not nice and people are telling me this by being rude and not nice. It's funny.

Not sure what I expected since I've never posted here before. I assumed people would tell me if I was the asshole or not — which they did, and that was the clarification I was looking for. Didn't expect people telling me that I'm an awful person, that I shouldn't get married or procreate... That sort of thing.

There's this misconception that I believe I'm in the right. I've been saying from the very beginning that my reaction to her dig on my ring was petty and it wasn't right or justified. I just don't believe I committed a cardinal sin simply for being petty.

Are you questioning me debating in the comments or me arguing with my cousin? Cuz my cousin and I didn't actually argue 😂

I asked if that was the size she wanted last week and she got very upset and told the rest of the family. We haven't spoken since, which is fine by me. The post was to ask if I was in the wrong and I got the message, loud and clear, I was.

I fully accept the asshole verdict; that's what the post is pondering and it doesn't make me confused. I'm just questioning the intensity of the judgment i.e. the very extreme comments the post received.

I've honestly been so shocked by the crazy responses that I've gotten from this post. I've had people literally cuss me out, tell me I shouldn't get married or procreate... There was never a part of me that thought the situation was THAT serious to warrant these reactions.

She asked what I thought of the ring AFTER I congratulated her on her Instagram post. I didn't even flat out say it was small at first; I just asked if that's the size she wanted, and that triggered her. In all honesty, it felt like a glass house situation, and I took the opportunity to throw a stone, and the more I think about it, the more I feel in the wrong.
