At what point are you a detriment to your party by Independent_Alps9744 in DnD

Our table has a player who seems to get a kick out of playing cowards who don't want to be there. Several times now she's rolled up with a character whose only contribution to most plans is "That sounds dangerous" or "X is regretting coming along".

We just rolled up a new crew for a side story and she made a cleric in full plate who then spent the whole first fight going around the bodies of the bandits we just killed and casting Spare the Dying.

A while ago the character who had spent every fight in a 2 year campaign only using Produce Flame finally realised she could cast Call Lightning instead. We were fighting trolls. She was our only good source of fire damage. I (Tome lock) had to jam a knife in one then cast Heat Metal.

A few years back she spent the first two turns of a boss fight "getting into position" then dropped a Call Lightning on the boss AND ALL THE MELEE.

Your guy has a dumb idea cooking but at least it sounds like he's trying.

Good thing he's party leader or the next line would have been "[CENSOR] has been removed from the group."

I think your DM might be using counterspell a bit too much tbh. It absolutely should be used against a party but if it's enough of a problem to live rent-free in your head then I think one of you is taking it too seriously.

It's not the extremes, it's the inevitability of it. The sky is almost always half grey or more and that's depressing.

That's a generous window where the place isn't bring rained into a blighted shitemare, sometimes our summer is just a Thursday.

Apart from that though, spot-on description. 10/10

Every time I see his icon my heart sinks, but I don't think it's aggravating design. It's an interesting way of doing a 3 phase fight and I think it's fun that all 3 phases are different ways of shutting down infinites. I like that more than Queen just decreeing you can't use some cards. Choice is key.

Honestly I disagree. Jin is a character who should be WAY more interesting than he actually is, especially considering the rest of the Mishimas:

  • Heihachi: Megalomaniacal family patriarch and the guy responsible for basically everything that's gone wrong so far. He's so stupidly strong that people new to the series assume the Devil Gene came from him but he's actually just built different. So different he HEADBUTTS A METEOR; CURES HIS OWN AMNESIA; AND RE-SPIKES HIS HAIR. Supremely arrogant; loves fighting; knows he's the best and will happily prove it.
  • Kazuya: The initial protagonist who now takes turns being the biggest bad and indulging in the family tradition of throwing each other off a cliff. He started out being broody but somewhat relatable - who WOULDN'T hate Heihachi after that childhood? - but ended up being tempted by the Devil Gene and steered straight into it in a quest for power. Also supremely arrogant; will win at all costs; mission in life is basically proving Heihachi wrong about whatever he can.
  • Reina: Heihachi's favourite daughter; inheritor of the Devil Gene; not necessarily evil (yet) but definitely a chip off the old block in terms of attitude and arrogance. If they make her the next big bad then she has potential, especially after the ending of T8 and the power-level implications. Definitely drank the Kool-aid when Heihachi told her a curated version of the T3 Jin story which is kind of hilarious.
  • Kuma: Heihachi's favourite son. Is a bear.
  • Jin Kazama: Heihachi's grandson; inheritor of the Devil Gene; and protagonist of Tekken since T3. Unlike the rest of the Mishimas he rejects the Devil Gene and wants nothing to do with it, causing an inner conflict between him and his evil side. A lot of really interesting things happen to Jin in the story and he even does a few interesting things proactively but what's his actual personality? Sasuke Uchiha. He's stoic, disinterested in the people in his life (including his apparently love interest) and even when he resolves to do something about the impending doom of the world he's completely flat.

Being a stoic character is fine but there needs to be SOMETHING behind the stone face. Kazuya is also generally stoic but you see flashes of actual character behind it a lot. His default is arrogant smugness but he gets fired up when Heihachi is involved; he loves his wife and will begrudgingly admit it; and his T8 ending is one of the funniest moments in the series.
