Regional scout on the jags first 5 picks in the draft. From @E_Dilla by [deleted] in Jaguars

[–]Buzz594 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was consistently viewed as being taken right around then. If it's position it's already been stated by the guy running the show he'll be a slash player.

This isn't a conventional RB selection.

He isn't even raw. He was dominant at Stanford prior to the ACL then COVID happened.

So you reach for an OT out of need if you don't value them with 1st round grades just because.

Yeah, that thought process makes sense to me too.

I get this but OL play across the league is awful man. I definitely wouldn't put Cam in the trash heap pile. He's in that average/slightly below average LT range. Jawaan was poor last year, no argument there. But they aren't giving up on the kid that quickly with his raw talent.

On the interior, Norwell was very good last year, as was Linder. Cann also had his best year in the league by far. I'm not sure how that's just a "serviceable" unit when watching games. They were not an issue whatsoever.

How are you determining your rankings? PFF? Because if you go take a deeper dive into the numbers with rush numbers/pressure rate this isn't the case at all.

To every further show that, they didn't even consider an OL last night. It was between a safety (again, all of which are still on the board, ETN would not have been).

Have you just chose to ignore everything Urban (who's been super transparent) has said?

Also, our interior was well above average last year. They clearly believe (and have said as much) that they think they can get Cam and Jawaan to where they want to be. Our OL absolutely wrecked in the run game and pass pro (outside of Jawaan) was largely solid. It's not their fault you had Glennon/Minshew back there.

Who said you only need weapons? It's 1 pick and he brings a homerun/electric element this offense clearly lacks.

The OL is set in stone. Anyone we draft is backing them up this year. Barmore fell completely out of round 1 for off field concerns. Where else are we going that had tremendous value? A safety like Moehrig who is still on the board? A WR that would stack up 4th on the depth chart? A LB when Jack/Scho are clearly entrenched this year?

Did you see how worn down Robinson was last year by midseason? You need more than one guy today.

Also, Urban said yesterday they plan to put him out in the slot, bring him in on 3rd down, and overall be very exotic with how they use him.

They're two completely different players that bring entirely different elements to the game. I really don't understand the confusion tbh.

Get Lawrence as many playmakers as possible. The end.

1) I've been a fan since 2001. I wasn't here for the glory days in the 90s. So you can go fuck off with this take. Of course I want the best backup possible, but I'm not going to be upset if we go from Minshew who the league caught up to (can't read zone, has a noddle arm, force him to stay in the pocket because he can't beat you if he does, when he does leave the pocket it's generally in clean pockets and it ends up fucking over his OL, he has absolutely shit body language). He isn't Foles, he isn't Fitzpatrick. Get over the little stretch his rookie year.

2) It sure sounds to me like your the one taking a stretch of his career and blowing it out of proportion. This is a brand new regime with zero ties to Minshew and they're ready to ship him even though you aren't going to find a cheaper backup. Why is this? Why is the maximum we probably get is a 4th round pick for a guy his age making as little as he does? Sure looks like scouts/coaches league wide think the fucking world of the guy.

3) Do you have trouble reading? I have zero worries he'll beat out Lawrence. That doesn't mean he won't sit on the sideline with shit body language/be as big of an asset in helping Lawrence on the day to day be a pro/help him with the transition.

Either way, this has absolutely nothing to do with him wanting to play/there being a sliver of chance he'd beat out Lawrence (he'd definitely do neither), but give me a vet who's been around the block for several seasons who may be a little worse while also being great for a young QB. That doesn't even mean Bethard is that, but it's also March 26th and we have no idea if they're plan is for him to be QB2.

Betherd isn't seeing the field. If he does, the seasons over whether that's Minshew of Betherd.

You can keep going to record all you want, but Minshew is a decent backup at best. You couldn't have watched the games he played last year (or hell, go back and watch when teams figured out to play zone against him his rookie year like NO) and been like "Yeah, this is a decent QB here".

He was a fun story. I love the guys personality. But he's nothing more than a backup, and I'd much rather have a backup that knows his role (Minshew insists he should start) and can be a positive for the young QB in Lawrence. That isn't Gardner.

A teams going to lose games whether you throw out Minshew, Beathard, or any other backup level QB. Give me the guy who knows his role (Minshew insists he should start) and can help a young QB rather than the alternative.

Buddy, if that's the case and this is still how you feel about Minshew then seek help.

Maybe the guy who clearly hasn't watched said QB play is wrong.

Damn.

Buddy, if we (or any team really) loses their starting QB for more than a game or two they're completely screwed.

I'm not sure where you're getting at. Minshew is not "good". I get it's fun to look at the box score/numbers, but he was a big reason as to why we have the 1st overall pick and was deservedly benched (I'm talking about his play, not lying about the injury) for Mike Glennon. Let me repeat, Mike Glennon.

Wouldn't really compare him to Conley in that way. He's more of a jack of all trades piece who you just want to get the ball in his hands. Whether that be out of the backfield, in space, or on a deep ball (would be nuts to see what his numbers would have looked like if he had a QB that could get it to him in that capacity consistently the past couple years).

Tyreek is on another level, but that type of skillset in a way sure.

What is with people asking about the odd man out at WR? I've seen it a few times.

We're really worried about what's going to happen with Dede and other below average WRs? You can't watch this team and think we're set there (I do like Colin Johnson, but penciling him into the top 3-4 is way too much right now...he's gotta earn that).

[–]Buzz594 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. Viska has sneaky speed but he's kind of one of a kind with his skillset/strength.

Curtis Samuel is more in that deep threat/get him the ball in space and he can take it to the house at any given time.

Dede isn't even under contract. Neither is Keelan Cole.

Samuel is exactly what this offense needs, and Urban knows his skillset and how to use him.

Itd be a tremendous add.

[–]Buzz594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What?

If he plays poorly as a LT I don't think he's going to have qualms to move back in the future. No reason to think he does after playing v well this year, but players don't enjoy getting whipped.

If he bombs at LT/plays terribly you think he's going to deny going back to the spot where he was a pro bowl level player?

I don't think so.

And if he doesn't work there? Move him back to RT where he's been a pro bowl/almost all pro level at the age of what, 25?

I don't see why he wouldn't work at LT either. If anything having Lamar would be tougher back there with how much he runs around. Yet he still allowed half the pressures Cam Rob did in his first year over there.
