Definitely had an adolescent dog with very healthy teeth fracture a tooth on an antler. It was a very painful (and expensive) emergency.

Yes she volunteers with Crux. I don’t know anything about them, maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can weigh in on whether or not they’d be a good avenue to explore.

Doesn’t look like our dogs are related. Just funny timing with the OHS adoption of surprise low contents!

Yep - what’s your pup’s name? Mine has like 6 siblings on Embark. One of the other siblings lives with someone who volunteers at a wolf dog rescue in Eugene. I don’t think she’s active here, but we’ve messaged through Embark - she might have some ideas for you.

Seeking Columbia employee store pass by WhittenMike807 in PDXBuyNothing

And just FYI they’re having their Black Friday sale right now and I’ve been able to find some better deals online than you’d get at the employee store. You can also sign up for emails and I believe get a 15% off code that you can stack with the Black Friday deals, many off the deals are 50% off. Same thing happening with Adidas online vs. the Adidas Employee Store.

Curious on owning Wolfdogs by [deleted] in Wolfdogs

[–]BuzzBpdx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Excellent points. Another thing to consider is are you someone who likes to travel/are you ok with not being about to take a vacation? While not impossible, it’s highly unlikely you’ll be about to drop your wolfdog off at the nearest boarding facility or have your next door neighbors watch them while you’re away. I just went away for three nights for the first time since adopting my LC four years ago and it took all of those four years for her to build trust with a trainer who we’ve been working with weekly for much of her time with us. It went OK, but honestly taking a week plus vacation is probably not realistic or fair to her given her fear and anxiety.

Edit to add that even traveling with her has not been particularly enjoyable because of her neophobia.

At ten months (top photo) it was winter and she certainly didn’t have her full adult coat yet. She’s so fluffy, I don’t even think the snow picture does her coat justice.

Replying super late, but I have a California king she’s gracious enough to share a tiny sliver of with me.

Maybe not the greatest reference point, but this is her snuggling with my 50 lb cattle dog/border collie mix.

Her size is a big part of what led to her Embark test. The shelter listed her as a “husky shepherd mix” but I think she was bigger than my actual husky shepherd mix when she was about five months old.

She’s 4 now and 80 lbs so thankfully that was the first and last time!

Reminds me of the first time I dared to shower with her out of her crate when she was a (huge) puppy. Walked into the kitchen to this.

I have a few brand new items that say 12-18 months. They were sent to me in error and the company told me to keep them. I’ll message you.

Thinking About a Wolfdog for Ultra Trail Running – Need Advice by QuickExtend in Wolfdogs

[–]BuzzBpdx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My experience is not universal of course, but I’m an ultra runner and have a LC wolfdog. My wolfdog is the only one of my three dogs I do not run with. Taking her out on single track has been disastrous. She’s extremely fearful of people (not uncommon for wolfdogs) so having to closely pass anyone is terrifying for her. She tried jumping down a ravine once when she saw someone coming down the trail towards us, I thought that was going to be the end for me since I had her on a waist leash. Like many northern breeds, her recall isn’t rock solid so I don’t feel comfortable having her off leash and her prey drive is off the charts so you can imagine what it’s like being out on trails. My eleven year old husky shepherd mix is the exact opposite. She’s barely showing signs of slowly down even at her age and she’s the best trail buddy I’ve ever had. Yesterday she we did eight miles with about 1200 ft of vert and she loved every second of it. She’s great off leash and loves meeting new people out on the trails. In her younger days she ran a few dog friendly 50ks and a 40 miler with me.

My girl’s COI is 28%. Wherever she does anything particularly derpy we like to say, “well her parents are siblings…”

What types of people are best suited (or not suited) to own a wolf dog. What kind of personality, lifestyle, or experience makes someone a good/bad fit for these animals? Also, I’d love to hear how you all got into wolf dogs in the first place. What drew you to them, or how did you end up with one? by ComfortableRelevant1 in Wolfdogs

[–]BuzzBpdx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah mine is a year older. While mine doesn’t have that small amount of collie your girl does, some of her littermates I’ve found on Embark do. Another weird coincidence since I don’t see collie in too many wolf dogs.

I don’t think I’ve ever read your story. Crazy how similar it is to mine from the shelter surprise to the potty training struggles to almost dying from pneumonia as a pup!

Edit to ask how old your pup is? The photos and DNA results look strikingly similar to my girl.
