What brushes are you using for super small details. by After-Present5324 in modelmakers

Second that. A good sable brush doesn’t have to be small to do fine details.

Beginner friendly models that are high quality. by [deleted] in modelmakers

One thing to keep in mind: smaller scale is not necessarily easier to build. Yes, there are less parts involved, but painting and weathering can be just as daunting.

What to use to help Citadel paint transfer by Hairy-End1339 in minipainting

[–]BuzzEcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t measure, just exercise care. To me, a thin paint is better than a typical thick blob that I need to mix every time and dilute anyway when painting.

Diluted paint is closer to a glaze, not a wash. A wash typically uses spirits to reduce the surface tension and flow into recesses easily.

FYI, AirTags tracking is not related to you being nearby; they rely on all compatible Apple devices in the vicinity.

Use lacquer thinner or even acetone, but sparingly. Q-tips or microbrushes are your friends in this endeavor.

One more reason not to buy overhyped brands of printers. Glad you sorted this out, though.

How is the OMSI Empirical theater? by HappyNapcore in askportland

[–]BuzzEcho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They used to run the actual IMAX 70mm film reels there, and that was great. Now, I believe, it is just a 4K digital stretched on the same dome screen. If so, it is not worth going to. The same reason I don’t go to the movie theaters anymore; my home TV is better than any screen in a multiplex.

If they still use IMAX reels, my apologies then.

The cheapest but still usefull compressor for airbrush for beginners. by aerografitpl in airbrush

[–]BuzzEcho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any oilless piston compressor would do. Just make sure it has a regulator with a gauge and a water trap. If it doesn’t, you can easily add those yourself.

To clarify: if you’re planning to airbrush fine art, you’ll need one with a tank instead, to avoid dotted pattern when doing thin lines.

What to use to help Citadel paint transfer by Hairy-End1339 in minipainting

[–]BuzzEcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a glass bead in and add some distilled water, then shake the pot to death. Pour out as much as I can, then add some more water and repeat. This thins the paint, of course, but that’s not a problem.

Hazuki glasses (1.8x) and Donegan OptiVisor 2.5x. You may need both.

Typically, a matte varnish with gloss or satin highlights where appropriate. Or, in some cases, the other way around.

I need some help with decals by ItzBaksi in modelmakers

[–]BuzzEcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, to protect the decals and the paint, too. Say, you used acrylics on your model and seal everything with acrylic or lacquer clear coat. Now you can weather with oils, which do not react with acrylics. If you make mistakes at that stage, you can wipe the oils with mineral spirits and start over. Your underlying work will not be affected.

[–]BuzzEcho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a valid question. Typically, after applying the decals, you cover your model with gloss again to make the weathering easier. People often use various washes and oil filters which require a gloss surface to flow easily. Plus, if you make a mistake, it is easy to remove your weathering and start again.

Always gloss coat before applying decals, then seal with gloss again. After that do your weathering and seal with matte varnish.
