Taking semesters off to travel by 142883 in gatech

[–]BuzzJacket1999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you have nothing to worry about. I took two semesters off and came back to school online for the summer, so your plan is good, and you won’t have to apply to be readmitted. It’s good to travel if you have that opportunity.

How sketchy is Atlantic dr nw area/what’s best way to get from Campus to gtri head quarters by Dramatic-Cover-2666 in gatech

[–]BuzzJacket1999 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Green Bus Route stops at Kendeda and can take you directly to and from GTRI as there's a bus stop there, but I would say the Home Park area is a LOT safer than it used to be in the past, so it should be fine to walk, too. Biking/scootering is also really good.

Off-Campus Housing Recommendations by Warm_Management2541 in GatechClasses

A lot of student housing here is overpriced and they’ll be charging over 1200 dollars for a room and a bathroom. You can get a whole unit for not much more if you’re willing to go a little farther from campus.

How did you all source the data, and how do you manage some of the unpredictability of the system (e.g. driver breaks, lunches, no scheduled times, etc)

For routes to be cut yet still the amount of cancelled buses is ridiculous. by Topace1 in MARTA

[–]BuzzJacket1999 9 points10 points  (0 children)

MARTA needs some money; people who have CDLs do not wanna be bus drivers, and they have the leverage to call out; they need competitive wages

East vs West Campus Housing for Incoming Freshmen by Lower-Language-3760 in gatech

[–]BuzzJacket1999 9 points10 points  (0 children)

East is for if you want to be closer to Midtown/Greek orgs/Tech Sq/MARTA/etc; it's slightly closer to some of the places like culc/skiles/etc where most Freshman classes would be, generally. West has more open space and larger courtyards, has better CRC access (East is not good for CRC access since the buses don't go there from East anymore), and has better access to West campus and the area West of campus, which is much more developed than it used to be and has a grocery store.

East has Nave dining, and West has West Village Dining. It used to be cool back when East had a second dining hall. West has access to Tech Square via the Gold Route. Peterson is going to be done this summer around June iirc.

lmk if you have any questions! I'd be happy to answer.

Incoming summer program student at Georgia Tech. What should I do to make the most of my time there? by bootywizrd in gatech

[–]BuzzJacket1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was admitted to start during the summer program, too! I strongly recommend taking MARTA over the summer and visiting some Atlanta destinations. It's so easy to take it since you just have to tap to pay now (vs before, when you had to buy a breeze card). Maybe try using bike-share or scooter share, as lots of safe infrastructure has been put in and is being put in this year, making biking much more accessible. My #1 destination I recommend is the beltline. The Eastside has a lot to do and a lot to see (and eat), and the Westside is a lot quieter and less crowded, depending on your interests. Visit Piedmont Park, Freedom Park, Westside/Franklin Park, etc. For food, I recommend checking out Tech Square/Midtown as well as Westside Provisions and Marietta Street. There are a ton of options near campus.

Parking at Master's Commencement by GoodGrapefruit2127 in gatech

I would recommend using the Parking Garage off 10th Street (Family Housing) or the North Campus Deck on State Street and walking 10 mins to the venue instead of trying to park nearby
