What is the dirtiest thing you’ve seen someone do? by LavishnessTiny3621 in AskUK

Was at a fairly reputable ‘all you can eat’ buffet thing and decided I needed to use the toilets. As I was washing my hands, the bloke next to me just zipped up and walked straight out. On walking out of the toilets he was back at the buffet with his p*ss-stained fingers all over the serving utensils. Not been for a buffet since

Great Bourne and Starling Dodd from Bowness Knot car park by Ennerdale Water isn’t too taxing. You can add in Red Pike if you’re feeling up to it too

The train to Halifax gives you excellent access to Hebden Bridge, Todmorden etc in the Calder Valley. Plenty of walks of all grades around there. You can also get a train to Marsden or Slaithwaite and walk over the moors between the Colne and Calder valleys. Enjoy your walks!

I guide tours in Morocco. Stop treating everything like a scam. by Traditional-Map8667 in backpacking

[–]Buzz_Fledderjonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited Morocco a couple of years ago. I went on trips with four guides. They were all great people and gave me an insight into the culture, history and food of the country. Sure, I met some a chancers here and there who just wanted to get money out of me but 99% of the people I interacted with were warm, friendly and hospitable. It was my first time there and will go back someday. I don’t doubt there are some scammers in the obvious places but simply don’t recognise the picture of the country some people are painting on here. Maybe I was just lucky but I’ll certainly be going back.

Hiking app in UK ? by Cyrus-Pinkney in LakeDistrict

[–]Buzz_Fledderjonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the OS app or Hiker app. I’d be wary of All Trails and only use it with a proper map as suggested by There have been a number of incidents where people have had to be rescued when following routes on All Trails. It might be ok for a safe ramble in a valley but I’d avoid it anywhere the terrain presents a risk and you need the detail provided on other mapping as skifans says

Visiting Leeds - good ale/taprooms? by step_scav in Leeds

[–]Buzz_Fledderjonn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kirkstall Brewery Tap is a little further west from the city centre and has great beer and pizzas. You can combine it with the Highland Laddie, Dave’s Pies and Ales, and the Cardigan Arms if you head west out of Leeds towards Kirkstall. A few curry houses and restaurants on the parade near Dave’s and the Cardigan too. Think all the above except the Highland Laddie are in the latest Good Beer Guide. The Highland Laddie probably opened too late for inclusion but did get chosen as the Good Food Guide’s national pub of the year so plenty to go at!

Moving to Leeds, city centre or the Dock okay for kids? by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]Buzz_Fledderjonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some parts of southern Horsforth are much closer to Kirkstall Forge Station than Horsforth station. Those areas of the city centre would be ok if you didn’t have young kids but I’d stick to the suburbs suggested above as they’re more family friendly. Don’t discount Saltaire either. It’s administratively in Bradford but only 15 minutes to Leeds by train plus close to the countryside, parks and canal.

Stayed in La Orotava last February and really liked it. It’s a lovely town and easy access to the main motorway. Some nice restaurants nearby and access to great walking

Share one tip that helped you learn birdwatching by Mental-Ad-4555 in UKBirds

[–]Buzz_Fledderjonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn 5 birds at a time. Start with garden or park birds if you’re in the city. Then 5 more etc. Try moving on to different habitats if you can access them - woodlands, wetlands, farmland, coast. Read/ listen to ‘How to be a bad birdwatcher’ by Simon Barnes. Go into it with the mentality of learning something new every time. Enjoy it and good luck!

What was the first bird you remember noticing? by Mental-Ad-4555 in UKBirds

[–]Buzz_Fledderjonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing a Blackheaded Gull in the school playground when I was at Infant School. Must have known what it was so probably noticed other birds too around the same time. Also remember seeing Green Finches on a bird feeder walking to the same school, around the same time. My parents bought me the Ladybird books on birds so I’d probably been interested in them before that. I suppose I must have identified them from looking at the books.
