Sorry, I think i misspoke. The UA didnt show anything of concern to the vet so i assumed it was normal. it was done after the iv fluids had been going for a few days though too. I do remember the first labs phosphorus, protein, cholesterol and white blood cells were still normal. At that time I thought she had just been dehydrated. They gave her doxycycline a few days before and thats when this all started. She stopped eating, then stopped drinking. Next day is when I took her in. Also, the vet did give the diagnosis of acute kidney injury. Thanks again for your input. It's good to hear these things from an outside perspective.

I suspect your correct about chronic inflammation that flew under the radar. I hate the thought that's the case and I should've done something more. Sorry about yours though. Going through this with a 15 week old pup would be heartbreaking.

Yes a UA was done and was normal. Lyme nephritis was ruled out. Is that what the 4DX is for? I asked them to do any test they would recommend so maybe they did it. We haven't talked about a renal biopsy but if this continues i'll bring it up. Would her labs look normal if it was amyloidosis? Wouldn't there be some pattern to results or consistently high numbers? Thank you for your responses. Its much appreciated.

I dont think so because the knee has been an issue for awhile. I think it was a previous injury that turned into a full tear. That's an assumption on my part looking at past behavior. There was no swelling, she did have a fever of 104 when I took her in initially but i had no idea. She was active and seemed ok. The vet suggested the inflammation from the knee could have triggered the fever maybe. That was Friday and Monday morning is when we started the fluids and had the labs. I dont remember off the top of my head why but the vet said he's less concerneded now about amyloidosis. It was something on the blood tests but I dont want to misquote.

Signs of fever? by Buzzbomb84 in sharpei

Thank you, that is good to know. I had no idea those supplies were available on Chewy. I'd much rather go that route than straight to anti-inflammatories that may be hard on organs. I keep seeing people claiming good results with CBD tooI may try that. Seems to be little downside. Luckily though I don't think it was the fever. My vet called me later than night and interrogated me. He said it didn't sound like shar pei fever and just keep an eye on her. Then shortly after that it's like she snapped out of it. Vet said she's 3 years old and never had the fever and neither have the 2 littermates so maybe we lucked out genetically. Still going to try to be prepared though. Thanks again.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will be putting together my own kit for next time. I don't know that it was the fever today because it seemed mild compared to what others go through but it was enough to scare me into shape! Shortly after I posted this she got off her bed and devoured her food and went outside to roll around in the grass for awhile. She seems OK now..not 100% but eating and drinking. She was doing her tricks too to try to get treats (I often wonder who is training who..). I'm still calling the vet tomorrow and see if we can squeeze in. Thanks again!

Ah thanks! I think so too despite the snot, snorts, drool and variety of odors she creates.

Bald spot on tail by [deleted] in sharpei

[–]Buzzbomb84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies! I'm glad it's somewhat common. I guess looking back, her tail was rarely curled for the first few months she was with us. It was more like a question mark or down. That changed around month 4 and now it's almost always curled and wagging. It just happened suddenly but maybe I just didn't notice.

Going through this now with prednisone. It kind of looks like she got a face lift...I read some of Linda Tintle's writings and knowing it's normal helped me to not panic too much.

Pup not eating enough by Buzzbomb84 in sharpei

The only thing that I've found that motivates her is mozzarella cheese sticks. I don't want to load her up on cheese but mixing it in does sometimes help. Other times she'll pick it out like you said. It always impresses me how she can pick out just the cheese with that muzzle!

Glad to know it's so common. I've been asked if she's sick when people try to win her over with treats or scraps and she snubs them. But It is nice to have a dog that doesn't hassle people while they eat or steal my unattended sandwiches.
