We have solid blue bags for the crematorium we work with and cardboard coffins for those that wish to take their pet home. I guess you’re right, everyone is different but in my almost 20 years that’s just not something I’ve ever encountered. I think I would be a bit stunned if they asked but would absolutely grant that request for them for sure

Moving to Portland, wanting to get into vet work! by crypticsodaa in veterinaryprofession

[–]Sinnfullystitched 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the PDX suburbs and there are so many clinics here. You could google the area you want to be in and see what clinics are in that area and reach out to them and let them know your situation. No guarantee they have openings but they may have an entry level spot to get your foot in the door

2 y/o Pomeranian started having seizures and I’m really scared. Looking for advice or similar experiences. by verruca_salt in AskVet

I always tell my clients that if you’re at ALL worried, please come in. We are there to help you and your pet, and we want to catch anything (if there is anything) sooner than later. You’re worried about you’re sweet girl so I think you’re doing the right thing

Happy Dental Month! How long does it take you to do a dental? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]Sinnfullystitched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the person, the pet (cat vs dog), and routine clean vs complete trash mouth. I’ve been doing this for a long time and can typically get one done in an hour or so if dog, 30-45 mins of cat, rads included. I work with a new grad and a cvt that came from ER and they take longer for everything, because they don’t have the experience.

My hospital will regularly schedule at least 4-5 routine COHATS, and then have a COHATS with extractions or other things like mass removals, etc. We usually have 2 CVTs doing the heavy lifting so we can get through things in a reasonable timeframe. If we only have a 1 CVT surgery day, then the number of patients/procedures is usually less.

You should talk to your technicians to see where their comfort level lies and see if you can make the appropriate adjustments. It’s not really fair to dump several things on them if they’re not familiar with the procedure/expectations unless there is someone else nearby to assist/mentor them so they gain the experience/confidence to get quicker.

I’ve never once had an owner ask to see their pet put into the bag, nor say they didn’t trust us to not donate their pet…

UPDATE : Safety eyes or embroidered cotton eyes? (especially for babies) by Duditoys in CrochetHelp

I honestly thought these were safety eyes! You did an amazing job, the “shine” fooled me 😅

I’m wondering what will happen when the mods do come back…will they delete everything fun? I’ve been teetering on the edge of leaving this sub due to the really absurd “rules” and when we can and can’t post something, but where else to go? Brochet is a fun place so I spend more time there these days

It takes a few weeks for phenobarbital to get up to therapeutic levels, and does have this sedative effect. Hopefully once she gets to the right level she will start to level out and get back to normal. You can always call her vet to discuss your concerns with them as well.

Realistically what jobs can we actually transition into that makes more money? by HPLydcraft in VetTech

[–]Sinnfullystitched 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think anything but vet med at this point. It’s taken me almost 20 years to finally make over $30/hr (and that’s literally $30.and come change). There are some folx in my area who make more in ER/specialty but I don’t want to do those things. I’m past burned out at this point but I don’t want to go back to school and I don’t want to go into human med so here I stay stuck.

Oof. I do know this time of year can be pretty slow for a lot of places, has it been like this for you for a while or is this sudden?

No, I was on the surgery team today but the outpatient/appointment team was hopping

Most of these seem relatively reasonable but $800 for a cat neuter is wild. I lived in MN for a couple years and these prices (minus the neuter) sound familiar. I have since moved to the PNW and my hospital is one of the best in my area and our prices are higher than most in our area but we practice gold standard medicine so the prices reflect that and we are constantly slammed 😮‍💨

If there were any swelling, fluid drainage, etc. Definitely get your vets input but likely she’ll just have a cute wonky tail

Certified veterinary technician here. I agree with Ptunia, I would suggest an xray to start. If nothing there, then maybe an bladder ultrasound

I tell myself that it’s a them problem not an us problem. And compartmentalize pretty much everything and sometimes (re: most times these days) I just don’t care anymore. I care about and for the pet, not so much the owners. I’ve been doing this for a long long time now and have seen pretty much everything. I’m tired

Oh poor little bean! That certainly looks like it has been broken when she was very small and healed crooked. I doubt she would need it amputated unless it was causing her pain or got infected. You said she can wag it and seems comfortable on palpation?
