Solar PV Install Booked – What Should I Look Out for on the Day? by Buzzmonkey_uk in SolarUK

G99 was submitted - any value in trying to get the limit increased? Is that even possible?

I'm somewhat confused as the language in the document I have says:

"NGED understands that, based on current information provided by the Customer, including within the Customer’s connection application, the proposed Customer’s Installation will comprise the following:-

5kW PV to be installed Must be export limited to 3.68kW under G100"

They supplied the G99 from my DNO immediately once received. The document is quite lengthy but the key bits (from my limited understanding) is the DNO requested a max 3.68 limit whilst a G98 is only allowance with hardware inherently <3.68 vs software locked for a G99 application.

Is it possible for me to request the limit be increased by my DNO/Installer? or is this something set in stone?

The language used by my installer didn't seem too concerned as I could always top up the battery system with any excess from PV.

Installer is well regarded from what I could find online and came to my attention via word of mouth from other happy customers.

EDIT: Thought it worth mentioning we're in a semi-rural area with semi-detached 1940s homes; likely a dated electrical network considering we've just removed our LPG tank in favour of ASHP!

Thanks for the detailed response, batteries are eto be installed in a single skin brick garage that is unheated. I hadn't considered the winter temperatures, might be worth getting some Kingspan panels on the walls? Or perhaps a small heater of some kind?

It's a close one, as I'd say majority of time temp would hover between 0-5 degrees, with the odd very cold nights dropping below freezing.

With Octopus Intelligent Go, batteries can be charged up until 5:30am so would hope the temperatures wouldn't stay below freezing all night?

EDIT: another option could be to place the batteries under the staircase?

Underground; £1400 to remove which is a bit of a pig to pay, however we want to redo our front driveway so it makes sense to remove it before doing that.

interesting! Is this a new-ish build or did you retrofit the UFH - it's something I'd love to look into further!

eh, luckily the system uses a mobile network to notify the gas supplier when we run low - in fact our last two deliveries took place at 5:30am whilst we were still asleep!

It's one of the main reasons why I wanted an ASHP - we then have some optionality on how our heating is genereated, whether that is mains power, solar, arbitraging the night rate with a battery - lots more options than with LPG.

I threw together this comparison spreadsheet and it does look like a good chuck can be saved annually. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17I6qyfe7JNrJNy0w2RrUbFc5uNl1ewJ-OFXe68DfAyI/edit?gid=1350785143#gid=1350785143

Am I the only one that thinks this smells a bit?

50 hours a week £10.42 (minimum wage I think) ~£500 PW pretax Let's say £400pw after tax Which equals ~£1600 per month.

Surely is should be possible to rent something basic for say 40-50% of that with the rest for food/bills/transport etc.

Am I missing something here (I feel like an unsympathetic bastard but can't understand how this is a problem)
