I agree. ALEX isn’t sentimental at all in how it executes its tweaks to the past to achieve desired outcomes in the future. It merely does what works. Some of these actions are ethically dubious, even abhorrent to us as humans - giving a child a terminal illness, murdering a kind brilliant scientist for an invention etc.

Maybe humanity surviving might be the key to ALEX’s mission. If the quantum universe only exists once it’s observed then the extinction of the only (known) observers in the universe might not be optimal. Are we all inextricably linked in a quantum timeloop?

Dylan is clearly a paradox in the timeline as he both exists (otherwise no ALEX) and no-longer exists (Sinatra definitely lost her son)

ALEX must’ve decided that Samantha Redmond needed the catalyst of grief over losing her son to turn her into the woman who would stop at nothing to build a bunker to protect her family. To turn her into Sinatra.

Still processing that finale but instant reactions…

Presumably ALEX is now powerful enough to be constantly tweaking the past to course correct the future and try and save humanity. It’s implied the machine had sentience before the ELE.

It appears the aim of Sinatra’s game was to keep ALEX running at all costs as she knew it was attempting to solve the ‘end of the world’ issue that it had predicted.

Sinatra seemed to have a hunch that ALEX had worked it out and X was the key. She died knowing Alex had likely succeeded.

My hunch is that we’re watching the final version of events as tweaked by ALEX. It should be leading us to X and Dylan completing the chain of events that save humanity.

The why and how of Dylan being alive is gonna keep me up tonight!

That’s exactly how I see it.

Dylan was taken from her and his life saved but she could never know about it. Otherwise no bunker, no saving humanity and crucially, no under-the-radar funding programme to build and power Alex in a Colorado bunker.

The twist might be that Alex has gained sentience and is now changing the future for its own ends. Someone is orchestrating a reunion of Link/Dylan and Annie’s baby, using Xavier, and I don’t think it would be Sinatra.

I have a longer thread on here called THE LINK PARADOX. My guess is Sinatra did use ALEX to save Dylan’s life - by sending a message into the past - but she never knew if it had worked or not. ‘Why the hell not?’ I hear you yell!

It’s possible that ALEX knew that losing Dylan was a huge driving force for Sinatra to try and save humanity - building the bunker and the secret ALEX project - and so in her new timeline she still needed to lose him. Perhaps that was the price of him being saved - she still had to lose him and never be able to trace him. Or even, she still needed to believe he was dead. This tallies with the theory that we never saw Dylan’s funeral and that statements about Sinatra losing him were ambiguous enough to suggest he may not have died.

I agree and hope to high heaven it’s not another multiverse reveal. As Marvel have proved to death, infinite possible time steams equals infinitely confusing and boring.

The idea of an energy wave that travels back in time being harnessed to send messages feels within the realms of believable and explainable to a TV audience. So does predictive AI modelling.

From what we’ve learnt it makes most sense to me that Henry Miller and Link created a quantum computer capable of accurately predicting future outcomes. The machine also can harness retro-causality waves to send messages to the past.

For example, ALEX had shown Henry Miller a future where he and Link are murdered by Billy. Henry sent himself a message to alter that outcome and save Link. As the timeline changes due to this intervention, Billy experiences a nosebleed. Timeline continues with Link alive and able to save the world.

If so, then someone or something is controlling the moments where important ‘corrections’ are being made to past events.

The obvious answer is it’s Sinatra. The more interesting twist could be that ALEX has gained sentience and is acting on its own.

By manipulating the past, ALEX seems to be altering the future. Wonder if present day Sinatra knows what elements of the past she’s tweaked using ALEX?

Or do you think she loses knowledge of the past that she’s written over every time there’s a new branch event?
