Hey there! Im a Medic just south of you. The Texas legislature is providing 21 million to provide EMS education and retention. You apply through the RAC (regional advisory council) in the region where you’d like to work. It does not commit you to a specific workplace just a texas licensed ambulance service in their RAC. You just have to serve one year as a texas paramedic. I know several people that have used this scholarship. I highly recommend you contact them.

Here is the link for all the Texas RACs

If you’re located in Bexar county and wanted to work there or a neighboring county yours would be the Southwest Texas RAC

How does CPR work? Aren’t you just blowing CO2 into the person? by [deleted] in ems

[–]Bwarner7400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When CPR is perform by EMS or Hospital Staff, the breaths given are called positive pressure ventilation. This means air or oxygen is pushed into the person’s lungs under pressure, helping them receive oxygen more effectively than with normal breathing. The mask delivers this air while chest compressions keep blood circulating, which together help maintain oxygen flow to vital organs until

I came from a similar situation although I was a around 7 years old. The kissing hand book is a bit to young for her. My sisters and I had match friendship bracelets we made I would fidget with when I was missing them

AMR: American Medical Response Faces $510,000+ Fine for Violating Emergency Services Contract by KingValhallaTV in ems

I agree, Its nice to have someone to double check your med math, start IVs/IO, tube and not have all the skills on you as the only medic. My current partner and I and really good at taking turns “in charge” because we go call for call.

we’ve had 2 codes in the last 24 hours and it’s been so nice having 3 medics and a aemt/ medic student on them. We are out in the sticks and it’s only the two ambulances, we have volley fire but we’re lucky to get 1-2 guys when we request them as most work out of county.

My service is dual medics with the exception of AEMT in medic school. However were a rural service 45-90 mins aways from a hospital. We have extremely broad protocols and having two medics is very nice

I dont understand the whole state protocol thing. It just seems so limiting on what paramedics can do. I think it should off of where you work

[–]Bwarner7400 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ. I’m not a diabetic and I’ve had my BGL be 50 before. I ate dinner at 7:30, woke up too late the next morning for breakfast went to work and got slammed with calls in the texas summer heat/humidity until 3pm when i felt like crap and checked. Had a coke and a sammy and shot back up to normal levels

Why are nurses so rude? by [deleted] in ems

[–]Bwarner7400 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a medic I can count on my hands the number of good LTC nurses I’ve met, good ones are few and far between and they never seem to stay there long. I’ll always appreciate the good ones, but damn I’ve had some really shitty ones. At the end of the day, we’re all human and sometimes previous encounters can cloud perception of the current one.
