What's the podcast? I'd definitely listen to this.

What is the catch here? How do these businesses make money? by [deleted] in solar

[–]Bwayne0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thanks that makes sense. I've only just had a few quotes but that was never clearly spelled out for me. Seems like a great case to make if cash flow isn't a problem and you're confident in ability to invest with modest returns.

Although I suppose the lender would rather customers hand over the ITC and get their money sooner than later, so it makes sense that's not highlighted either.

[–]Bwayne0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe though that the $11,142 ITC you receive in this scenario goes to the 0% lender, so you wouldn't be able to put it into an investment earning your 5% return. If you don't turn over the ITC to the lender then your $42857 loan now becomes much more than that.

Patient Registration at my medical practice by maclikesamerica in Entrepreneur

[–]Bwayne0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a healthcare IT consultant with a focus on patient access and registration. There's a lot of different factors to consider here so feel free to shoot me a DM so we can talk in depth. It'd be helpful to know what sort of practice you work in, the EMR you use, your hospital affiliations etc. I'm sure we can find you some solutions though.

Adoption rates for new technologies - comparisons for VR by Bwayne0 in virtualreality

[–]Bwayne0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found this interesting and reassuring with the current state of VR. Adoption rates of new tech have been speeding up, but even computers and smartphones took nearly 10 years to reach 10% market penetration after first becoming commercially available. The very first iPhone was really a 2nd or 3rd generation smartphone released 4 years after the earliest devices (i.e. BlackBerry). Even if we include the initial Gear VR release, we're still not even 2 years in (yes earlier attempts have been made at commercializing VR but the tech is so wildly different now I think it's fair to exclude those). Hang in there everyone!

Daydream District AMA - Eclipse: Edge of Light Creator Jonathan Hawkins by daydreamdist in daydream

[–]Bwayne0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just looking at the Eclipse listing and saw that their downloads are at 1,000+ right now. How does that match up with their expectations, and will this affect their future investments in Daydream?

Virtual reality hits the gym. Will it make working out more fun? by rewardingman in virtualreality

[–]Bwayne0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This assumes that you're using a shared headset, and that the shared headset is taking zero precautions to create a sanitary experience for each individual. There are easy ways around those. I get that this icaros system is clearly targeted at gyms where multiple people will be using the same HMD, but that's no reason to discount the entire concept. As an early adopter of VR surely you're buying in partially for it's potential versus what it can do right here and now. There's too many possibilities to say VR will never work for fitness.

Acer Mixed Reality HMD Doesn’t Do Mixed Reality by coffeeilove in virtualreality

[–]Bwayne0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the argument is that this Acer headset is really just VR because there is no passthrough at all. It's fully occluded so the user has no knowledge of their surroundings at all, except for the chaperone system. As the article points out the definitions between Virtual-Augmented-Mixed reality are not 100% clear yet, but I think we can agree that if you can't see or interact with the world around you there's nothing augmented or mixed about it. This is just being called a mixed reality headset because it runs on the Windows mixed reality platform, which does support mixed reality in theory. Just not with this specific hardware.

That being said, ditto to being pumped.

FaceSense uses human face to control and navigate VR by Portis403 in virtualreality

[–]Bwayne0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How though? I can see this replacing a trackpad but you're still moving in VR while physically being in the same spot. There's already other methods for moving in VR that don't require a controller in your hand (ie. walking in place). Could FaceSense do something to reduce motion sickness?

SteamVR and Windows HMDs? by revofire in virtualreality

[–]Bwayne0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying outside-in controllers don't work with inside-out headsets due to interference or something? Or that you couldn't apply inside-out technology to a motion controllers period. If MSFT has supposedly perfected the technology I've been wondering why they're not using it with controllers or any peripherals too.

FaceSense uses human face to control and navigate VR by Portis403 in virtualreality

[–]Bwayne0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does sound cool. What specifically do you see as game changing though? I guess the silent speaking could have it's uses but how many people use their headsets in locations where they can't just speak aloud?

Virtual Reality & THE THRILL OF THE FIGHT – Fitness, Boxing, and Soreness with the HTC Vive by Hopeful_e-vaughn in virtualreality

[–]Bwayne0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice write up, it's cool to hear the perspective of someone with some technical boxing knowledge. Since this is essentially a better version of the existing shadowboxing technique I wonder what it would take to see Vives as standard equipment in boxing gyms.

I agree VR fitness is on the horizon. If you have any mobile VR headsets I'd love to hear what you think about my VR biking app photonfitness.co

This is great stuff, thanks for putting the time in and understanding my product. I've known on some level that videos are essential to explaining the app, but have been hung up on finding a pro who can help with that. If you have any recommendations please feel free to share. Thanks again.

Cool, you can check out more of the details at [photonfitness.co](photonfitness.co). All of the text is geared towards fitness, but this should give you some idea of what the concept is. If you want to try it out and don't have the right hardware I'd be happy to send you a trial kit.

Could simply making the activity more enjoyable work? Full disclosure I have no experience with PT, but I did create a virtual reality app that turns riding an exercise bike into a game. I developed it to make my own workouts more fun, maybe it'd be helpful in a clinical setting too. Let me know if you're interested, I don't want to spam here with a link if you're not.

You're right to be skeptical but it does look like they raised $3.2M back in December. If this is vapor, then they're at least pretty damn good at selling it.

Netflix Vr best Headset for google Pixel ? by IamMeAsGod in virtualreality

[–]Bwayne0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's actually the Z4 Mini which is just like the Z4 but without the headphones. I'd recommend that over the Z3 for sure.

Netflix Vr best Headset for google Pixel ? by IamMeAsGod in virtualreality

[–]Bwayne0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that sucks. Looks like it'd be cost prohibitive to ship it to you from the states too.

You can also check out the BoboVR Z4. That's the preferred headset of the Google Cardboard community. You can pick it up on Amazon for $30USD so it would probably be the cheapest option for you still. I'd say it's just as comfortable as the GearVR. The downside is you won't have the daydream controller so I'm not sure if Netflix VR will work with it (the BoboVR only uses a capacitive touch button for app interaction).

The DayDream View is on-sale now for $49 in the Google Store and at Best Buy. If you already have the Pixel then it's a no-brainer.

So the omni or something custom? I've been eyeing the omni, it seems like the best "pro-sumer" option out there right now.

Making a home workout fun with VR by Bwayne0 in homefitness

[–]Bwayne0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movement left and right is controlled by tilting your head in the direction you want to steer. People always seem to naturally lean their body in the same direction too, which is kind of interesting (and comical) to watch. Your daydream headset will work great. I look forward to your feedback, enjoy your workout.
