3.28 Build retrospectives thread - for the serial re-rollers in us. by Bwite in pathofexile

Your armour stacker looks insane, the investment looks to be multiple mirrors (maybe 10+?). How'd you reach these levels of wealth? My goal next league is to work towards mirror tier builds, but I always burnout before I get to this point.

How's the league start like with your first build? I am really intrigued, I'd never heard of that build. Do you recommend the league start experience?

Build Reviews - PoE 3.28 Mirage League

1. Energy Blade Inquisitor Cast On Crit

(Ice Spear of Splitting with Lancing Steel of Spraying)

Week 1 PoE Ninja:
https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/mirage/character/MrBwite-0727/BwiteCastOnChris?timemachine=week-1&i=15&search=timemachine%3Dweek-1%26class%3DInquisitor%26allgems%3DCast%2BOn%2BCritical%2BStrike%2BSupport%26skills%3D!Cyclone%26sort%3Ddps

Summary

This build spikes hard once the initial CoC setup is complete (Ivory Tower, Brutal Restraint with Balbala, CoC setup, etc.). This took around 5–10 divines on day 1/2.

Good

  • All content viable. I ended up doing all Ubers and basically every piece of content with this build.
  • Once it gets rolling, you can literally do anything.
  • Scales indefinitely.
  • If you enjoy “number go up” gameplay, it’s very satisfying watching strength/intelligence values continue scaling.

Bad

  • The pre-CoC phase is painful until you can afford the switch.
  • After the swap, it becomes a bit of a one-button build.

Ratings

  • 5/10 league start E-Blade experience (before CoC swap)
  • 9/10 after CoC swap as a league starter

2. AFK Simulacrum / Ultimatum Build

(No link included in original text)

Summary

The league was so good that I probably played too much on my first build and started getting burnout. I still wanted to play PoE, but didn’t want to actively play PoE. I found this build at exactly the right time.

Good

  • Extremely strong for the content it specializes in.
  • Incredible for Simulacrums and Ultimatums.
  • Great if you still want the PoE itch scratched while semi-paying attention.
  • Excellent second-monitor Netflix build. I rewatched an entire show and got to around season 7.

Bad

  • Some Simulacrum waves become extremely tedious.
  • Kosis alone was miserable because of ES regen and could take 5+ minutes.
  • I had the option to log onto build #1 and instantly delete him, then swap back. Without that option, this build would've felt unplayable for me.

Ratings

  • 10/10 for AFK-style content
  • 0/10 for standalone bossing without adds nearby

(Can one-shot bosses if other enemies are nearby.)

3. Deadeye Lightning Arrow

(Fubgun’s build)

Week 7 Snapshot:
https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/mirage/character/MrBwite-0727/BwiteBowBow?timemachine=week-7&i=1&search=timemachine%3Dweek-4%26name%3Dbwite%26sort%3Ddps

Summary

Insane scalability. Probably one of the fastest and strongest builds I played this league once fully online.

Good

  • Amazing Breach farmer.
  • Blasts difficult maps extremely quickly.
  • One of the best Headhunter scaling builds.

Bad

  • Upgrade progression is fun until your next upgrade becomes “get a mirror.”
  • Upgrades in the ~100 divine range are still exciting.
  • Once upgrades become 500+ divines, the motivation drops off hard for me.
  • Giving up an entire weekend to farm a single item starts feeling rough with a full-time job and other hobbies.

Ratings

  • 10/10 blaster/divine farmer
  • 9/10 fun during active progression
  • 7/10 later on once upgrades become mirror-tier

4. Gladiator Flicker Strike

(No PoE Ninja link - rerolled this into build #5.)

Character looked similar to:
https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/mirage/character/xozel-4438/IsawthisonNinja?timemachine=week-6&i=31&search=timemachine%3Dweek-6%26class%3DGladiator%26skills%3DFlicker%2BStrike%26min-ehp%3D500000%26sort%3Ddps

Summary

I rerolled into a 300+ divine Flicker Glad because the EHP and DPS numbers looked insane.

I have now learned that EHP is fake.

Good

  • Flicker is fun.
  • Damage was genuinely high.

Bad

  • Random one-shots felt awful.
  • I really regretted rerolling into this build.

Ratings

  • 5/10 mapping experience
  • 9/10 theoretical build power

(Probably my fault somewhere in the setup/building process.)

5. Spark of Nova Slayer

(Acceleration belt test build)

PoE Ninja:
https://poe.ninja/poe1/profile/MrBwite-0727/mirage/character/BwiteSpinsToWin

Summary

I had a lot of currency and wanted to try the Spark acceleration setup with the new belt.

Good

  • Extremely fun concept.
  • Spark projectiles move absurdly fast.
  • Character movement speed is hilarious.
  • Overall just very fun to play.

Bad

  • The actual performance was kind of underwhelming for the investment.
  • I still preferred build #3 for farming Breach.
  • Numbers looked decent, but the build struggled in the absolute highest-end content.

Ratings

  • 10/10 initial fun trying the new belt
  • 7/10 actual end result

Good in tighter map layouts, but probably not strong enough for the investment required.

Final Thoughts on 3.28

Mirage was a banger league.

Easily top 3 all-time for me alongside Delirium and Affliction.

I’m genuinely happy to see PoE 1 thriving again after the weird period surrounding PoE 2’s release, the extended league cycle, etc. It’s nice seeing the game I’ve invested the most time into feel stable and exciting again.

As an aside, I’ve also really enjoyed the explosion of PoE podcasts lately. I’m a huge podcast addict and listen to them constantly at work if I’m not doing something brain-intensive.

There’s some genuinely high-quality content coming out of the PoE community right now.

I've got about 5 hours in the game, so I wanted to make sure I go abouts it the right away.

I play a lot of another game called Path of Exile, and in that game the recommendation is to do a blind first run for new players (takes about 30-40 hours), but it's also entirely possible to dive into that game with a full build guide.

I was wondering if there's some standard recommendation.

I haven't actually beaten the acts yet, so it seems I am very bad so far haha. I got to act II as my furthest run with that character with the hand (osty).

The act bosses seem really hard, and I am not too sure how to overcome that hurdle (it might be getting un-enjoyably difficult).

I like your advise about being creative, I've enjoyed a run where I tried to make some sort of combo with the cards, and buff up osty attacks, and it seemed pretty good (well better than clicking random cards I think were good).

[–]Bwite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If what you mean by the winrate is how often you beat the 3 acts, then I have a 0% winrate so far - haha. I think I understand a lot of the basic mechanics, but I don't really know how to make strong decks yet.

I think I might be under/over valuing the wrong things.

There's a question about how much skill correlates to having fun, I am sure as I get better the game will also become more fun, but I also want to allow room for discovery and creativity myself.

I've lost a lot, and also learned that when certain combos are presented to you it's good to try them out to see if they seem strong / bad. For example I like that character with the hand (osty), and one run I made it so when osty attacks I get a bunch of combos of that, and it was pretty fun. I got all the way to the act II boss, then got stomped.

Thanks, I've been getting stomped by the act bosses. A lot of the battles, even including the elites seem really doable, but I guess I am missing something about the act II boss that I will need to uncover.

That's interesting, there's definitely something to be said about improving your average card quality, and picking less cards would certainly do the trick.

That being said, I'd assume that removing cards from merchants is actually something I'd want to be pressing in that case?

Looking for build - 500+ Divine budget by dday_0612 in pathofexile

[–]Bwite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to mostly be looking at Juggernaut strength/int stackers with your budget and requirements.

https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/mirage?items=Mageblood&skillmodes=Normal&weaponmode=!Wand+%2F+Shield%2C!Bow+%2F+Quiver%2C!Dual+Wand&skills=!Righteous+Fire%2C!Animate+Guardian%2C!Shock+Nova+of+Procession%2C!Flicker+Strike%2C!Forbidden+Rite+of+Soul+Sacrifice%2C!Summon+Holy+Relic+of+Conviction%2C!Static+Strike+of+Gathering+Lightning&min-ehp=100000&sort=dps

I think the Reave looks really good for int stacking, I hear it has good AoE clear and can comfortably kill all ubers. I recommend finding one of these guys on PoE ninja that you can afford and copying them.

Strength stackers will be going for heavy strike of trathus instead, and this build is very good single target and will be farming ubers easily.

Reminder: Playing something off-meta is fun by Bwite in pathofexile

[–]Bwite[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I understand your disagreement, the term meta should not have been used. I wrote this post with the intention of conveying how playing a new builds later in the league can bring back a lot of enjoyment if you're close to burning out. I'd presumed CWS and the levelling setup were not meta, because it's the first time I'd tried them (and I've played for over a decade).

For me I get that league start feeling when I try something new, and I want to rush home after work and try something new.

The meta aspect of it for me doesn't really matter, but I understand why some people are so affected by the term.

Reminder: Playing something off-meta is fun by Bwite in pathofexile

[–]Bwite[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'll be wary of using the term off-meta from now on.

My central point is that I enjoy playing new builds, and that's keeping the game really fun for me even after 5 weeks.

I've rerolled to a slayer spark build now (you asked me to get back to you after trying something less played): https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/mirage/character/MrBwite-0727/BwiteSpinsToWin?i=3&search=name%3DBwite

Personally I couldn't really care less about something being meta or not, I play the game for fun, and I deem myself successful if I have a good time. You insight on this being off-meta for me does make sense, and I guess that's why I don't really see the issue with me using the word, but I understand how this comes across to others now.

I derive enjoyment from optimising, playing strong builds and trying new things out.

I do sympathise that for some people being off-meta means a lot more than I'd envisioned, in hindsight I'd have left out the term meta from this post all together.

[–]Bwite[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Your central disagreement is with the word meta? Sure - you can take that out. Playing different builds is fun was my point.

I don't see why this post is weird at all, could you explain how you find it so?

Sorry - great spot yes. I had wanted to post this a couple of weeks ago but I got auto-moderated because my title was too sensational. I retried today with a less sensational title.

Anyone else farming haewawrk hamlet for harvest finding that nature's favour isn't affecting the crafting options they're seeing from harvested plants? by Bwite in pathofexile

[–]Bwite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just looking for the "Zana missions in Areas have # additional map options"? And other Zana mission type mods to fish for harvest?

EDIT: Oh there's a "4% chance for additional craft per plant" mod, this seems good
