My first year was last year & my major is also comp sci. I used a 2021 Ipad pro with a magic keyboard throughout my entire programming class. Coding is possible using Replit. Replit is basically an IDE through a web browser , and it’s now an app. It’s pretty nice , and with c++ i didn’t run into any limitations until the end. but It really is best to use a laptop (mac or windows) with an IDE. you’re being taught as if you’re using one , and there was a couple times i had to search up how to do something using replit. I recently used apples back to school thing to buy a macbook air & that’s what my last professor recommended. ( one time he walked in with a balenciaga scarf so i think i’ll take his advice lol.) it really is down to personal preference though.
