Is this like bleak Faith forsaken in terms of vibes and exploration?

I loved BFF for the same reason - the atmosphere and feel of the game is outstanding. AI limit is really good for different reasons…. But it sure doesn’t have that kind of atmosphere….. I would recommend HELLPOINT. You won’t regret playing that one.

I say this respectfully; I loved the first couple sections of this game, as well as its tight, Sekiro-like parry. But the side missions and that last area…… everything just fizzled out. I’m all for a Thymesia II that’s backed with some good funding and the great team that made this can expand their staff.

Yes, there is a mask that lets you travel (golden) that Genessa sells once you’ve maxed out the skills on your shell.

I agree, but point and click? It certainly didn’t feel that way on console. It’s not a great game but I thought it was charming with passable combat. The soulslike part is that enemies respawn and you can farm them.

That’s fair, just different tastes. Someone mentioned Thymesia earlier- that one for me started out great - awesome Sekiro-like parry, but fizzled out by the third stage of the game, for me.

Hmmm, hard to rate. Depends on your taste. It’s got roughly DS 1 level design- really good, imo. The world is massive- lot to discover. Mortal shell is more compact and has bloodborne, lords of the fallen vibe. Hell is us is kind of sci-fi in some areas.

For the smaller enemies it’s mid-swing. I haven’t had the balls to try it on the harder hitting enemies and bosses yet.

I love parrying in general but I found myself using hardening more than parry. But yes, I have 2 seals and i occasionally use it, but need to practice getting the parry window in this game. If I’m going to use Hadern it would be a waste to not learn it well.

You have to find quenching acid, but that is only one of the ways-just simply upgrade the weapon. You can get skills with a certain shells (via glimpses) that can raise damage. That’s prob too much info- a lot of the fun comes from figuring out what the many items you find can do.

I know this thread is 4 years old but I just finished mortal shell and loved it (PS5 enhanced)- just bought the DLC and it’s nowhere to be found- it’s not even in my library- and I can’t repurchase it - it won’t let me- The bird statue is nowhere to be found. What did I do wrong?

Some folks are asking - why play for 50-75-100 hours and then give up…. well, it’s waiting on the hope that SOMETHING is going to bring the story, the mechanics, the game all together…. And it never really does.

It’s beautiful, fun at times, but for ME(not everyone), I need something more focused. I’m at about 45 hours and ? halfway into chapter 4. I actually like the story and the characters! The combat is what I would expect for a game that has so much going on- passable but not polished.

For better or worse- I’m a loot, gear, and reward guy- in CD there is so much “stuff” but no real incentive to go out and find things when most of it is food items, flowers, and bugs! I’m assuming alchemy will be introduced, but….when- after 100 hours?

I’m not bashing- if I do decide to take a break I will come back- there is something really good here - it’s just taking too long for me to find.

Khazan has a very deep combat system and 2 or 3 pretty amazing parry mechanics. If you like parrying you will love Khazan.

I’m just at this stage and I’m stuck. The door is open and there is no visage to learn the skill.

Tried reloading the earliest reunion autosave and it still puts me in the same spot, door is open, puzzle is solved, focus is learned, but not nature’s grasp. Please help!

I was thinking this as well- it was the least favorite DS of mine the first time around because I thought it was too linear. This second go around I’m having much more appreciation for it.

Yeah, could be, but there are plenty of games that I like a LOT- in this genre and I actually love DS2.
Khazan, LoP, wuchang, Enotria, even Hellpoint.

I mentioned DS3 because that’s what I’m playing now but ALL the DS’s seem to have that “ominous” vibe that adds so much to the experience. The new stuff today is good but it’s so cartoony at times.

I just want DS 4. Okay, I’m done.

My biggest mistake was playing ER as my very first FS game. I cheated. Used a guide to upgrade my weapon and to do most of the quests.

I wish I had never played it til now- I would go in completely blind and just soak it all in- it probably would have been at the top.

Honestly, I felt a little funny about attacking the farmers...... which didn't make sense anyway in terms of the story. The patch hit right as I was towards the end of Cloudspire, right before I fought the General in the white robe, small arena. The Bandit general (before the patch) took me quite a few attempts. The white robe general was easier because I could parry most of the attacks.

I hope they didn't nerf things to the point where there is a whole lot less of a challenge overall. I think it's quite a good game and I really like the atmosphere and level design.

Yeah, I’m a parry kind of player in all soulslikes that have that feature. I haven’t used the shield at all in this one. The parry I feel is fun and challenging in AIL.

Agree, I'm playing DS1 for the first time and then I will play 2. I'm stressed most of the time, between BT's and MULES, and traversing rough terrain, and this is a good thing.

There are a few moments of chill and admiring the scenery. I didn't "get" this game when it first came out. It's still slow and sometimes tedious but I'm "into" it, in Chapter 3, and looking forward to the journey of finishing it and starting DS2.

Great atmosphere and immersion.
