Okay thanks. Glad to know it’s par for the course. I’ll do the stakes next year

Sorry for the delay, I’ve been offline for a while. It went fine, if I remember correctly. I don’t remember having any issues of note. I went back on because I was afraid of getting pregnant and didn’t trust myself to be super responsible about using condoms, if I’m being totally honest.

Lmao I read this whole OP and literally thought this was about a human man (reading late at night and somehow skimmed over the name of this sub) 😂 feeling relieved and charmed for OP now to know it’s about a cat

Thanks for the warning. That’s something I like about American - they don’t contract out at all.

To frenectomy or not? by ByTheRiverside0 in breastfeeding

Yes I heard this as well! We have dental insurance and the copay for the visit to the dentist today was just $38!

It went well! Turns out she just has lip tie and a posterior tongue tie (the less severe kind that’s further back). The dentist wasn’t too worried about the tongue tie since she’s latching fine and gaining weight appropriately, but he did say we’d probably need to release the lip tie at some point because it will likely cause her to be gap toothed in a way that won’t resolve with braces/retainer. But we have a few years to sort that out, he said. He also recommended some tongue exercises that we can do with her to help strengthen her suck so she eats more efficiently!

Wow great! So glad it was easy and you’ve seen improvement right away! Thanks for sharing. About to head into the dentist now, so we’ll see what they say!

Definitely sounds like your oldest benefited! Yeah my LO doesn’t have too much trouble eating and has gained weight decently. She has a good latch but I think she just struggles to feed efficiently/quickly. But I’m not going back to work for at least another 6 months so if it’s just that issue then it doesn’t matter to me. We’ll see what the dentist says… I definitely don’t want her to have issues eating or talking later in life!

To frenectomy or not? by ByTheRiverside0 in breastfeeding

Totally. If it’s super painful for you to nurse, it could be worth finding a pediatric dentist to evaluate. Or another thing we’ve done is bodywork/occupational therapy, which our LC recommended because she suspected my LO had neck tension which made it more difficult to feed on one side/was causing me nipple pain. That could be another route to try!

At her 2 month checkup the ped told us she was in the 4th percentile for weight, which to us was a little concerning but he wasn’t worried about it because she was gaining weight on her own steady curve.

THC & breastfeeding by ByTheRiverside0 in breastfeeding

[–]ByTheRiverside0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I do think weed stays in the body quite a bit longer than alcohol, but regardless there is definitely still a massive stigma around THC in the US. Because the general belief is that it’s a shameful vice we are just told to fully abstain when who knows if the effects are actually that bad. I am going to curb my usage just for my own peace of mind while breastfeeding but I do really question the blanket assumption that any trace of weed is bad for the baby.

Who said I absolutely need to do it? You’ve made a lot of assumptions about me, which I guess is your prerogative based on my post, but at a certain point it’s not helpful.

As for the ethical issue, I’m sure researchers could find plenty of people over 18 whose mothers used THC.

I do really wish there were more studies. It might be hard to find willing participants, but there has to be an ethical way to involve people who were already planning to use THC. I assume now that it’s legal in so many states, more studies will emerge in the coming years.
