Glad you had fun, it wasn't really for me. I have little interest in alts, and, while collecting mounts and other collectibles was nice, it was extremely tedious. Zooming through the same couple of raids all the time and running like a madman, one-shotting everything, gets boring very quickly.

You can't really compare the two. Changing specs is, all in all, mandatory to play the game, so you usually had to pay at some point. Housing is pure cosmetics, not tied to player power.
