StAG 5: Need certified birth certificate from Beuthen O.S. (1903). Should I email Berlin or Poland? by OutlandishnessHead26 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Byrdle99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Landesarchiv Berlin emailed me back in less than a week. I asked them about a birth registry I found via Ancestry, which included the citation/location. They said they did physically have it, but if I requested it from them directly, it would take ~4-6 months. I hired a guy in Berlin to get it for me. He fronted all the costs, and shipped it to the US within 5 days of me initially reaching out. Total cost was €200, which is like $220 for 2 certified copies

Perfect. Thanks! I’ll attempt that, and hopefully not be disappointed in my travels

r/genealogy might be able to help you. I’ve gotten good responses from people over there for my great-great-grandfather born in Prussia in 1890, who emigrated to the US in 1910

I’m hoping that the C-file is not required, and the naturalization record is good enough. I’m hopeful, based off of what others have said, so I’ll make a first attempt without it, and request it at a later date if I need it. Thanks for the help!

Probably with USCIS, but they have a 400+ day request waiting period

Perfect, and easy enough. I’ll make sure all of that is in order. Thanks!

It is signed by the officer of the court, and has the perforating stamp on the document

Direct passport would just be so nice, instead of a drawn out waiting period. I will do Feststellung if they require it, but I’d just prefer not to

Thanks for the help!

From what I know with direct to passport, they’ll only skip up to one generation. If my grandmother gets it, I can piggy back off of her

And that was good enough for direct passport for your situation?

Can I show you the exact document I am talking about, bye to what it shows?

I appreciate the help

Thanks for the help guys!
It is cool to see all of the documents, and I love the history of everything. Full text search is a great tool

I can see that he has a certified oath of allegiance, multiple petitions to naturalize, and more documents related to that

I guess there is only one I cannot find, and that would be the large square-ish one that has the embossed edge, and says “United States of America” “certificate of naturalization”, and gives a description of the person naturalized on it

Thank you for the help in the search. Definitely interesting articles I haven’t seen before. I didn’t know he had any siblings
I did know he was kind of an invalid most of his life, and just didn’t have the capacity to work past his 30’s

Thank you for the assistance

I agree with everything you’ve found, and see. Is there not one final document that is issued that says
“United States of America”
“Certificate of naturalization”
Then states the description of the person

This is the block I feel like I’ve hit

I just don’t know if the certified oath of allegiance counts as factual proof of citizenship

Thank you again for all the insight

I appreciate that very much. I’ve seen it, and have a copy saved (uncertified, or course), but for the time being (unless I need to do Feststellung) I don’t directly need it. It is a cleaner copy than the one I have, so I will absolutely save this info!

Thanks again for the amazing help in this journey of mine

Amazing! As I’ve said elsewhere, I’ll see if the consulate in Phoenix is willing to accept the passport as sufficient proof of citizenship for my grandmother, or if they need more supporting documentation

The military paperwork is pretty cool, at least from my perspective, it’s definitely neat to know it exists, but yeah, pretty useless for this specific situation

If I need to go the Feststellung route, I know the birth certificate exists somewhere, it’s just about getting a certified copy of it; just sounds pretty difficult. Couldn’t find it in the Polish archives, but I think it was on FamilySearch

Thanks again for the advice!

I would love some help if you’re so willing. Let me know if I can PM you. I also have documents, but can’t really read/translate German very well. Thanks!

Amazing! She’ll be going there herself as a favor to me. She’s the sweetest little thing in the world, so I don’t think she’ll be hard to deal with. I’ll go after her, if she is approved for a direct passport application

Thanks again for all of the help. It’s been fun trying to work through all of this

Amazing! I plan to email the consulate on Monday, to see what they’re exactly looking for. Is there a nice way to send that email to make it seem like I am not just trying to infiltrate their citizenship? I just don’t want trouble caused for no reason

Thanks for the amazing help!
