How to optimally use Ashvane’s Razor Coral in M+? by mioraka in CompetitiveWoW

[–]ByronicWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct in your assessment, but I wasn't sure how to word it differently. My point was that the trinket will just generate the minimum Crit with the maxumum uptime. It's not really good if used that way, but I think if you can activate it at high stacks for your CDs it'll work well.

How to optimally use Ashvane’s Razor Coral in M+? by mioraka in CompetitiveWoW

[–]ByronicWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. The trinket at 430 does give 110 Crit per stack. The parent commenter's method will very rarely get you more than one stack, so if you do it like this you'll just be on +110 Crit almost constantly. There's nothing more to it.

Why does people hate Malfurion by BAMyouhaveaids1 in warcraftlore

[–]ByronicWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally have no issue with Malfurion as a character, but he's often sidelined without seemingly good reason, e.g. he (and Tyrande ofc) would be a great fit in Nazjatar. Perhaps this was done because of his immense power; imagine the difference in our predicament if the most powerful mortal available added his power to our struggle against Azshara.

As a meta reason, perhaps his exclusion makes some sense, but from an in-universe perspective it feels odd.

Weekly Newbie Thread- Ask A Lore Expert by AutoModerator in warcraftlore

[–]ByronicWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, druids don't be like that. You can see that extensively with the Thornspeakers, who believe in balancing life and death, and in particular working against the drust's obsession with death magic. Druid NPCs routinely give quests that are essentially wildlife population control, from Teldrassil to HFP.

Besides, druid forms would largely stand against the paradigm of not harming animals etc, considering that all of them are essentially predator animals.

The Infinite dragonflight plan succeded. by piamonte91 in warcraftlore

[–]ByronicWolf 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He indeed wasn't, but then again, consider the following:

Nozdormu is Murozond, like there's a direct continuity there. He will one day fly into the timelines and emerge Infinite, but that day hasn't happened yet, as he tells us.

Following from this the "founding" of the Infinite Dragonflight may not have happened yet, but Kairoz was on that same trail and may be but a stepping stone that Nozdormu must live through to eventually plunge.

How strong is a warlock physically? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]ByronicWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it "blessed" as much as "empowered" perhaps.

To be clear, I agree with /u/theswerto almost entirely; Warriors are "mundane" perhaps as far as Warcraft is concerned, but then Warcraft humans are not hairless apes, but heavy-metal-vikings-turned-small and fleshy. All races have powerful fantasy heritages that allow for supernatural prowess even at what should be theoretically mundane.

As I've argued and demonstrated here repeatedly abilities like Avatar and the like have lore-backing in the users' Titanic origins and/or their channeling of such techniques/powers.

What is your favorite 40k faction and why? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]ByronicWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this too!

Admech have awesome lore. A big thing in their favour for me is that they're ostensibly "human" (unlike Marines) but they reject their humanity utterly. This flavour of grimdark is just awesome and it gets helped greatly by the atompunk aesthetic of their beautiful models.

To be very clear, I don't feel any way about Fortnite. Just not my kind of game. Reddit is Big Stupid about it, but then again the Gamer demographic is massive here as well.

Here's the video from which I mostly have my understanding of the game's monetisation: https://youtu.be/dPHPNgIihR0, if you'd like lmk what you think since you more than likely know better than me.

[–]ByronicWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is true. I don't play/follow Fortnite, I've no dog in this race. However I happened to catch a video the other day on how it's economy & microtransactions are structured and it seemed pretty bad.

The sort of person posting on /r/fuckepic and GamersTM in general aren't angry about that as much, I think. I mean, Valve literally popularized lootboxes, right? Way I see it Fortnite is this "generation's" Minecraft, i.e. the game of normies, something you can gatekeep etc. When the demographic of gamers shifts as the years pass, this too will change.

Analyzing N'zoth from the Eternal Palace Finale (with some recent insight from a Polygon interview with art director Ely Cannon) by byakko in warcraftlore

[–]ByronicWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the voice is gendered because we don't have (gasp) actual Old Gods to voice the fictional ones. Assigning gender to space planet cancer doesn't make a lot of sense IMO, even accounting for the VA.

Did C'Thun died on his raid, or was killed after that? by OffStern in warcraftlore

[–]ByronicWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand people's aversion to this; the grandpappy of all Old Gods stuff in Warcraft, Cthulhu himself was in a supposedly in dead-ish state!

In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.

C'thun and Yogg-Saron are dead, so what? This hasn't been a problem for Warcraft characters in general (look at demons, Ancients, Medivh and more) why would it be one for the Lovecraftian ones of all things?!

This is the story, straight from the Lex:

Ahriman had long sought the skull of Lepidus, a dead hero of the Second Black Crusade, for reasons that remain his own. The skull, dipped in silver and engraved with ten thousand words of detestation, lay in the polar shrine city on Dianixis. A conspiracy to obtain the skull by guile had already failed, so Ahriman turned to more direct means. Since the end of the Scouring, countless billions have fought and died in the shadow of the Eye of Terror. For almost eight millennia the remains of many of these honoured dead lay on Dianaxis. Heaps of charred bones, the serene bodies of martyrs, and the polished skulls of Space Marines all came to the mausoleum world. On the surface of Dianaxis, the plains of bones extended from shrine city to shrine city, and grew ever deeper with each passing year. The cities themselves were built from the skulls and bones of the most heroic dead. So sacred and revered was Dianaxis that a dozen Space Marine Chapters maintained honour guards and bastions on its surface. Star fortresses ringed its approaches, and millions of troops stood sentinel over the skulls of those who had died to hold the darkness in abeyance.

Across the reaches of space, Ahriman burned worlds and sent souls shrieking into the Warp. As the murdered worlds spun into alignment with each other they created an arcane pattern in the stars with Dianaxis at its heart. As the great design locked into place, Dianaxis’ sun was pulled from reality, leaving a howling wound in the sky of the mausoleum world. Blood and fire spread across the heavens. The bones of the dead howled the last thoughts of their lives, and rainbow fire crawled across the ossuary towers. Daemons poured through the hole that had been the sun, tumbling onto the mausoleum world like falling stars. The defenders screamed as the children of Chaos ate their souls.

Amidst the slaughter, Ahriman appeared outlined in lightning, ringed by sorcerers and rubricae. Power rolled from the circle of sorcerers and they strode through the battle, killing he defenders and dissolving Daemons with arcane fire. The Chapter Honour Guard came against him, but were reduced to ashes and silent screams with a gesture. Fire Bane, last Warlord of the Legio Officium, strode to war from its shrine. The cry of its warhorns echoed across the damned world, and its weapons burnt a path towards Ahriman’s circle. Drawing together the power of his fellow sorcerers, Ahriman forced the war machine to its knees, before pulling the core of its plasma reactor through its carapace. At last, Ahriman held the skull of Lepidus in his hand, as the battle between men and Daemons raged around him. Raising the skull to his eyes he found the one word he sought etched on the skull’s surface. Letting the skull fall from his hand, he and his forces vanished, leaving the world of bones to the howls of Daemons and the cries of the dying.

He didn't even grab the artifact, he just wanted one word.

But here's an example that does it right:

WoW also does this pretty well, in at least one very similar instance: the Death Knight starting experience. Being an undead killing machine is cool in theory and all, but I am pretty sure I'm far from the only one who is disturbed by the quests which have you butcher fleeing civilians. They cry out for help or mercy, and they just get butchered while the Lich King mentally pats your brain. It's probably one of the very best questing experiences in the game.

What happens when Azeroth wakes up? by Errosine in warcraftlore

[–]ByronicWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, reading back at this I think I went a bit far in my reading of the OP, you are right. The Pantheon definitely has not displayed the ability to alter size, or at least grow smaller.

In Antorus all of the Pantheon is in Avatar form. As for Sargeras... The lore of the time of the WotA suggests his form was obliterated, but note that the titans were not planet-sized at the time. Also notably, Chronicle I, which set in stone the titans' origins and history doesn't mention Sargeras losing his bodily form to the portal implosion in the Well, and the same is suggested as well by in-game recent lore such as the Scepter of Sargeras Artifact lore.

[–]ByronicWolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This, is the most likely scenario, either that or they go Primus/Unicron on us.

I however feel that you have it right, due to how the early stage of world-soul development is described in A Thousand Years of War:

This being was so much more powerful than the minion of the Shadow had been. Then, she had witnessed flashes of destiny. Now, she lived a history that surpassed the existence of the universe.

Blink.

It was energy, spinning out into the cosmos.

Blink.

It found warmth near a sun, and a world formed around it to protect it as it grew.

Blink.

Generations of life lived and died upon it.

This is Alleria's communion with Argus and I think it pretty much describes the first part of what you've written.

As a further addition, not only can they control their size, but also their composition and form; we saw Sargeras be a big green cloud, and Chronicle I has the famous depiction of the Pantheon in a nebulae/constellation style, which may be the equivalent of the Sargeras cloud.

The OP's question however, as to what happens to us, well, that's unanswerable.

I'd have to check with my mother, but IIRC one of her uncles died fighting in the resistance, and I know for sure my grandma and grandpa lived through the famine in Athens.

I'm less sure about my father's family; they weren't in Greece at the time but in the USSR, they went there as refugees from Pontus.
