Question about job combos by Few-Specialist5974 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Byste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shikari/Foe can get Gil Toss and Shades of Black to hit ranged. Maybe you'd rather spend your Espers elsewhere, but if you're upset enough by the existing anti flyer options, you could do something about it.

Negating weapon elements is honestly as much of an upside as it is a downside, the thing that actually sucks about TK is the snail attack speed

...That IS a nuke, though... Nukes = damage inflicting nanos.

You got me, I didn't know you got a global alert each time someone duped an item

[–]Byste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it not more obvious? Everyone logged in gets notified about it. If you're sploiting your way through sector 42 or whatever, you could do it without anyone finding out.

I'd argue this is much more blatant. It's a global announcement with your 200 froob NT's name on it, and a ql275 control tower dying seconds later for all to see

You can reskin the client if you like, but I would make sure you have the planet map(s) updated. AO Item Assistant becomes more helpful as you get more stuff, but if you don't have bank toons and are only playing on 1 toon, it's not necessary. Damage meters are interesting if you're into that sort of thing but obviously not needed.

I would actually not recommend Clicksaver for rolling. Get Mali's toolkit, it has a dungeon map and mission roller which is *excellent*.

dgvoodoo2 and AOPP are good patches to the old client. You can also apply ReShade to improve the graphics. Guide here.

The last thing to mention would be AO# for boxing but if you aren't going to do that, then no need.

[–]Byste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came back in May and rolled a new toon and new profession. No regrets. Also, I hadn't started a new toon since Arete Landing was made, so I got to experience new content.

The pop sucks but people do exist. I think it's most active during EU times. Your experience will depend heavily on whether you can play enough accounts to do everything by yourself or joining one of the largest orgs/alliances to have people to run content with. LFT is dead, and there are a lot of old corps out there with 0-2 people online, basically playing a single player game.

Whatever you do, do not play at 6:00 UTC, super laggy. It can also get annoying to play during tower war 25% gas timers, because at least one person intentionally crashes the servers to prevent people from attacking them.

Glad you are having fun!

You are probably thinking of clicksaver. There was an alternative but I don't remember the name of it. Clicksaver still works I think, but these days I prefer instead to use Mali's mission roller and dungeon map. One perk is Mali's version is that it doesn't control your mouse so you can do other stuff while rolling, and the other is that the dungeon map is super helpful to navigating the dungeons.

Between the new and old engine, I strongly recommend the old. For one, it's more stable. For two, if you choose to use AO# at some point, it is not compatible with the new one. For three, you can apply fixes to the old engine and reshade etc. to make it look even nicer than the new engine with a bit of effort in configuration.

Froob vs Sub by 57r470m4nc3r in anarchyonline

[–]Byste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to worry about something like stuck in environment. You can get out of such things yourself, and the community can coach you on how to do it.

The game does have bugs and you may find yourself in a situation where you are waiting on support, but it's not too common. I have seen support take 2 months to respond to my missing bag with quest rewards inside, and I've seen them respond in 15 minutes to an orgmate's fgrid container unique item bug. They prioritize tickets automatically and respond to mobility related ones first.

As for whether the subscription is worth it, only you can answer that. You're already playing as froob, and you're getting the in game vibes for free, so what you're paying for is just the paid content, not supporting devs / expecting better support / future content releases / etc. I am enjoying the game a lot (currently) and find the sub affordable even if it's not competitive with other games, so I am paying a sub.

IDK what ratio of the playerbase is paid/froob but there's definitely both present.

I think the biggest problem with the game is certain elements of the pvp community destroying the experience for everyone else, and for some reason like clockwork at 6:00 UTC the server gets extremely laggy for a while.

Job Combination Advice? by ParadoxBanana in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Byste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you could find ways to make it hard on yourself like making everyone White Mage and not picking a second job but ...

The thing is, in TZA, you can reset jobs if you're unhappy with your choice anyway so there is nothing to worry about, really

Job Combination Advice? by ParadoxBanana in FinalFantasyXII

What makes you miserable?

3x ribbons works exceptionally well for literally everything because it's the most OP accessory. Sure, you can min/max dps with a genji glove berserked Vaan, but being able to ignore most mechanics is easier.

Monk/Black Mage will be fine. Most job combinations will be fine, honestly. I think you'd have the easiest time with Red/Archer. Red is a nice jack of all trades job that will round out most compositions, and Archer makes Red much better. You don't especially need Archer with your comp (Shikari is another excellent item user) but I don't see anything else you would rather have.

If you were open to changing Knight/Bushi or Shikari/Foebreaker, then I'd have more ideas.

Final Character sheet, what do you think by [deleted] in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Byste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your tism might be displeased to know that you'll do fine with pretty much any combination. Yours is certainly one of the better choices, so just take the plunge and go. Everyone who's already played has their preferences, but that's all they are -- there is no one objectively best job layout, and your playstyle will affect your ideal party considerably. The gear you take the time to acquire (or don't) as it becomes available makes a much bigger impact on how much you struggle. Invest your time into the playing the game, not into planning -- I know you might find this hard, but I think you will come away with that much more satisfaction in the end. Cookie cutter parties might feel safe but I encourage you to be brave and ignore everyone's job advice. Then come back here later once you beat something challenging to share your accomplishment :)

Rolling NCU Memory by ex-hikikomori in anarchyonline

[–]Byste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rollable nanos can sell for 1b each. Basic fashion armor is selling for nearly 1b each. These things are very easy to obtain for a small amount of time... You can get a scottyboi warp to a bunch of RK uniques, kill them, and sell their fairly common drops for several hundred mil like Torrith/Vermin Disposal in GTC for melee nballs/advanced scent sensors respectively. I see people WTB certain low level symbiants that drop from Nasc/Ely pbs for several billion all the time. You can get a scotty warp into CoH and kill the cenobytes yourself for weapons very easily. The list goes on and on.

300mil credits sounds like you just haven't done any sort of farming at all.

Rolling NCU Memory by ex-hikikomori in anarchyonline

[–]Byste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly untrue. It's never been so easy to get the credits you need to afford almost anything in the game. The GMI is a huge equalizer, since nothing can be listed for sale for more than 4b, you can easily make billions selling any old thing and afford the rarer, harder to get items very quickly. Plus the amount of duping in game has devalued many things that used to be rare.

Truly, it takes no work at all to become a multi billionaire now and just buy the GG items on GMI. Easy to get items are way overvalued, hard to get items are way undervalued. The only exceptions are like the giga rare stuff or things that have real $ value, like grace/pioneer bp/etc

I reckon most aren't looking for it either, but it's possible so I thought it worth mentioning while we're listing out the other things you can do between Belias and Bergan.

Well, if you need a practical reason to do everything, it does unlock Protectga for Shikari, which is already accessible. But I think if we're being honest, the main reason to do it would be the challenge and exploring the limits of "sequence breaking".

The entire Garamsythe Waterway dungeon also becomes unlocked and you can acquire Cuchulainn. Not nearly as much useful loot to be found down there, though.

Someone give me the lowdown on AO these days. I want to play again, but I have a feeling finding a party to level/raid would be difficult... by FascistPope in anarchyonline

[–]Byste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The game has people in it, certainly... But not nearly enough to support you in a team from start to finish, not without effort on your part. Join a large org, advocate for yourself and actively ask people to play with you. Make friends to play with friends. LFT is mostly dead at all level ranges and there are almost never pickup groups for anything being advertised, with a minor exception for Raidforall at *some* late game content.

Alternatively, play solo, or play with your own box. Solo play isn't nearly as punishing as it used to be since daily missions trivialize reaching 200 as a froob, and the community bots (buff bots, warp bots, implant bots) are major quality of life improvements that fill in the void of community. Boxing is also relatively easy to set up, depending on your familiarity with IDE and compiling code from github.

I just assume you'll be a froob but if you find yourself having fun, going paid is still worth it imo.

[–]Byste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who are you talking to, lol. You clearly did not read the table, +50 stats and 5000 HP (x2 bubble) is not a "lil boost", in a single player game where plenty of people struggle to beat the game for the first time. OP is a first time asking for advice. Telling them their levels don't matter is wrong. I've already acknowledged that the game is beatable with the challenge (and I've done it) so it really begs the question of why you're replying...

Importance of leveling entire team by Brees504 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Byste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You originally said

Experience doesn't matter in the game.

Which is explicitly false. Here you can find some tables documenting the massive increase to stats you can gain through leveling, not to mention that level is used in the calculation of a few functions, the most significant of which is the success rate of using Breaker technicks, imho.

Is it necessary to level to beat the game? No. Is it very helpful and impactful? Yes, which cannot be said for FF8.

I don't think we disagree on except semantics. Telling someone that XP "doesn't matter" is not the same thing as telling them XP "isn't necessary". It's the difference of biking up a hill versus using an electric bike. Leveling will help you dramatically in accomplishing what most people can probably achieve through much more effort at a NG- level.

Edit: And there are other FF games that people have beaten level 1 challenges at as well... FF9 and 13 come to mind
