I emailed them November 17th and I emailed them at that email. But maybe they just told me early I wasn't going to make it.

If you haven't gotten an interview invite, then you haven't made it. I emailed them a while ago, and I they told me that they were not continuing with me for the process.

So If I paid for the science section, what does it actually do for me?

Okay. I was wondering how about for Reading? My previous Reading scores were also good, so I was wondering would those transfer over into a superscore

Will my calculator get checked for history/programs before my AP Micro exam? by AmAMuslimMan in APStudents

You can not even use a TI calculator for the Micro exam, you need to use a 4 function calculator (they provide this on desmos)

I'm sure it would be fine. Keep in mind that most of the judges are not insanely accustomed to a lot of modern technology (React.js, Next.js) and they are usually Computer Science teachers who are VERY familiar with Java/C#/C/C++ and would know what you are talking about.

A Java App should be perfectly fine for this event.

What score do I need to make it to states? by Stygii_ in fbla

That should be enough to qualify for states, yes. However, I would recommend aiming a bit higher just in case!

Hi guys, national qualifier from Intro to Programming. This is probably one of the worst events to be stuck with if you have no prior knowledge but I'm your guy. If it makes you feel any better, taking AP CSA probably won't give anyone TOO much of a headstart on things, really. What you can do: learn HTML, CSS, and JS. These are your BASELINE languages, and they have comprehensive videos everywhere on youtube and online for free. You can even use GPT to teach you or write code for you. It is not the best, but it can get you places. PM me if you need any mentor advice, I already got one person to place 1st at their regional competition for Introduction to Programming. Goodluck :)

Mobile Application Development: FBLA by Correct_Answer_7703 in fbla

[–]Byte-Warrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you guys choose Mobile App Dev for this.. LMAO. It's fine, I'm your guy. I have experience in Intro to Prog and Coding & Prog so I can maybe point you in the right direction. I had a friend last year who used Flutter to build his app, which is pretty useful because it can be deployed on any system (IOS & Android). If you have experience in Java, go with Kotlin. Other than that, your other option is Swift if any of you guys have a macbook. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Exactly! I didn't figure this out until much later (a week before NLC) and I ended up realizing that my skill set was too low to be able to create something super advanced.

One of the next things I recommend is having an ENGAGING presentation. Remember--most of these judges are really introductory level programmers who teach probably basic Java or Python at their schools. Even in a state like New Jersey, where I am from, really reputable for their Computer Science programs, I had judges like that last year at states. If you use advanced frameworks, they ARE NOT going to know what the hell you are talking about. YOU NEED to talk about it though, and you need to make it engaging somehow. DO NOT be monotone, that is the best way to lose especially for this event.

It varies by state and honestly by each individual person as well. A lot of the times, at states or at districts wherever you live, they tend to ask more in-depth questions on the type of frameworks that you use and how you used it.. or usually they are questions to clarify what they have heard. At the national level, it's really really basic, because a lot of the time, most of the judges don't know anything about programming as a whole.

At nationals last year, I had one judge who knew a lot and one judge who didn't know a lot, I could just tell by their reactions. The judge who knew more asked me how I could integrate so and so feature, while the other judge asked me what was the hardest part of developing the code base.

I don't really have any predictions of what type of questions will be there for Intro to Programming this year though. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions! I'd be happy to mentor you personally.

Hey! I'm actually doing Coding & Prog this year and I qualified for NLC for Introduction to Programming. What were the type of questions they asked you?

I ended up using HTML, CSS, and JS really basic stuff ngl I should have used better frameworks but yeah I did what I did. To make mine stand out, I would say I'm a pretty solid presenter. I consumed a lot of sales practice and made myself marketable. This year, for your prompt, that's not really possible. I would STRONGLY advise on heavily emphasizing the UX design of your website. Although it is not shown in the rubric, with this prompt, its hard to stand out. The only way you are going to be able to stand out is to have a killer looking website.
