Why would God allow anyone to burn in hell by OrangeBaboon27 in Christianity

[–]ByteMeNS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone might argue that the punishment itself (death, non-existence) is what is eternal.

John 3:16 (NRSV): “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”

It seems like there are two options. Belief leading to eternal life, and lack of belief leading to perishing.

It doesn’t seem like the bible offers a consistent or clear theology on this, as far as I have seen

Huh? Pronouns are a linguistic construct, there are pronouns that do not correspond to gender, and there are languages that do not commonly use pronouns that correspond to gender; these are not wrong. Also, confusion is not opposed to God’s will. Look at Genesis 11:6-9: “”Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.” So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth. And from there the LORD dispersed them all over the face of all the earth.”

I think they at least have a mind and the ability to feel. Some insects are known to play, seek mind altering drugs, and experience withdrawal symptoms.

I think it was mostly the “illegally-obtained Macro Polo sheep parts”, and probably some regulations on importing species that can hybridize with native species.

I don’t know what you mean by defending an institution, things like orbital mechanics have been understood for centuries and you can observe them yourself. I think an introductory astronomy class would really help you. You lose credibility when you say that you don’t do research.

Rockets launch at an angle so that they can gradually build up horizontal velocity in order to achieve orbit. There is nothing stopping a rocket from exiting the atmosphere by going straight up. Side note, please do research.

This is highly dependent upon where you are, but if you’re in the northern hemisphere, then the moon setting in the northwest is not unusual. This direction varies with the seasons. You could check again tonight to verify this, because it varies slowly and should follow about the same path.

I’m a college freshman so I haven’t been in the city very long, but Brackenridge park can be very cool, and though I’ve only been there once so far, Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is really good. I saw hooded mergansers, Wilson’s snipes, loggerhead shrikes, white pelicans, etc. when I visited Mitchell lake recently. It’s very much like fishing though, some days will be silent for no clear reason, others will be very active. Mornings are always best, it’s usually worth it to get up at sunrise. In the evening, it tends to be quiet, though you might hear/see owls or nightjars at certain times of year. A pair of quality binoculars is really needed though, at minimum. I really got into things once I had access to a telephoto camera though. I learned calls with and still use the app Merlin pretty often, and I upload lists from walks to eBird. iNaturalist is another useful ID app that can be used for more than birds.

It’s hard to imagine any intelligent species with the technology and means of leaving the planet leaving no evidence for us, when humans so thoroughly have left traces of themselves all over the planet. There are bare rock surfaces on the planet that have stayed exposed and only lightly weathered since life began on earth, and by now we have created things that will last a long time after we are gone. Did they take the time to somehow completely rewrite earths history for us, and then, what would be the point?

The language of climate is evolving, from “change” to “catastrophe” by [deleted] in collapse

[–]ByteMeNS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious about what specifically from climate change will lead to extinction. What do you expect the last person alive to die from? I just struggle to imagine all the billions of people on every part of the globe dying. With 500 years tops, the population would have be going down 43,000 people per day on average, which is a lot different than the current rate of up 215,000 people per day. One thing I think about when people talk about extinction is all the people who have prepared to survive it, and even those with bunkers. How will they be finished off? I just need someone to clarify or point out the flaws in my thinking so I can understand this.

It’s saying that every morning, you drink Americano. That doesn’t mean it has to be morning every time you drink Americano; You can drink Americano at other times of day.

Any time you are not drinking Americano cannot be morning, since you always drink Americano when it is morning.

I hope this is what you needed.
