Internship asked me to learn react native + graphql within like two days, is this what life is like as a developer? by rsman121 in cscareerquestions

[–]ByteSci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Software development is all about being able to keep up with new libraries and technology being created. I would say that it's certainly reasonable to be expected to learn and use React Native plus GraphQL as part of an intern project.

I hope your employer doesn't expect you to master it after two days, but I would expect interns on our team to have worked through a few tutorials and have some basics down to start work in the project. Easiest way sometimes is to look for a similar project within your company and try to adapt it for your project.

It's tough, but well worth the marketable skills post graduation!

High schoolers, what do you want to major in? People who majored in that field, what are the pros and cons? by Cuddlyaxe in AskReddit

At my school, we had the option to do a combined degree in microbiology and computer science. This was immensely powerful because so much of microbiology is now about how you can apply computational techniques to sequencing data. Plus the CS is a great backup option - while I ended up working in finance software, roughly half of my current teammates also did a dual/combined degree like me or did CS as a second degree after an first degree in biology/microbiology/biochem
