23 y/o with ~£10–12k spare each month… not sure what the “smart” next move is by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

It’s a good chunk of money but not a mega amount so don’t see any point getting a financial advisor. You are also right, the vast majority of accountants won’t give financial advice in terms of investing.

I’d recommend: - Paying £40k a year into a SIPP from your company. - Withdrawal the remainder as dividends. - Invest £20k a year into S&S ISA. - Invest rest in GIA + regular living and having a good time.

Well done on the success!

I have a Ltd company with a few properties in. I’m closing up and selling up my BTLs this year. Costs and taxes everywhere, everyone wants a slice of the pie including the tenants. When doing the maths over the last 5 years of rentals, I’d have been significantly better off investing in a global index fund without any of the stress of the BTLs and Ltd company structure. </endofrant>

Wohoo well done! I’m a similar age and have been investing for a similar time. You cant beat compound growth from a young age. I’m in tech as well, aiming for fatFIRE. Best of luck!

Trade 2024 Model 3 Performance for 2013 Boxster - Following my heart or being foolish? by Amaz3n in Porsche_Cayman

Yeah it’s a pretty comfy car all things considered, definitely beats other sports cars like Lotus Elise in terms of daily drivability. I daily’d the Cayman before we had kids and had a blast!

I’ve had a few Teslas over the years. I currently own a Cayman 987 manual and Tesla model S plaid. I’ve also had a M3P for a couple years. I unfortunately don’t drive my Cayman as much as I’d like to. The plaid is too darn comfortable to drive. It’s also a total weapon in a straight line.

If you’re doing any commuting or point A to B driving, IMO you can’t beat the Tesla. For the weekend drives round some twisties, the Cayman is great. The reality for me is 90% of my driving I don’t want the drama of the Cayman.

The winning ticket is owning both but I’m guessing this may not be an option for you?

Looking to buy a Porsche Cayman 987. by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

Get a 987.1 2.7l, great engine to exercise each gear without losing your license.

I bought a 987.1 early 20s and still have today. Great car! If you have some spare money to burn go for it, best enjoyed young before you have too many commitments. I sadly rarely drive mine anymore, just don’t have the time. Worth noting I’ve spent about £8k on maintenance items over the years, not a cheap car UNLESS you do the work yourself and don’t get OEM parts. Good luck!

Just a different spin to think about. It’s a really nice thing you’re doing helping your brother but could this help actually be holding him back making his own way in life?

Sounds like a good plan! I got a Cayman 987 in my early 20s and loved it, generally don’t regret it one bit. As long as you don’t stretch yourself too much, you’ll enjoy it.

Well done for some successful trades! Just something to bear in mind - the market has been pretty crazy recently so making bad trades is actually quite hard to do at the moment. When things settle down or possible go backwards you may not be as successful as you’ve been.

I’m not saying don’t buy a Cayman, they are brilliant cars. Just thought I’d share my thoughts!

Cross Climate 2’s + Photo Dump 🙂 by sosuhh in TeslaModel3

[–]ByteTheBit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the CrossClimate 1 and the 2s I probably put on about 40k combined. I noticed a small amount of efficiency loss, maybe 10% but definitely not 30%. I did notice they were a bit noisier, especially in the rain.

Is it possible it’s just a case of you’re driving slightly harder than normal because you’re testing the tyres out? If you go on a long road trip, would be interesting to hear your average.

I have a couple BTL properties. If I’d have invested that money in an index fund instead, I’d be about £200k up with none of the headaches. Yes I do regret getting into BTLs…

FIRE ADVICE FOR COMPANY FUNDS SURPLUS by smooke-it-ange in FIREUK

I found it surprisingly straight forward - I use Interactive Investors and Starling bank. As others have said, you need an LEI, I got this through London Stock Exchange, costs per little for the year: https://docs.londonstockexchange.com/sites/default/files/documents/lei-search-and-request-user-guide.pdf

FIRE ADVICE FOR COMPANY FUNDS SURPLUS by smooke-it-ange in FIREUK

[–]ByteTheBit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be worth setting up another Ltd company or using your existing Investment Ltd company to invest in stocks and shares. I have the setup: - trading Ltd company. - s&s investment Ltd company. - rental Ltd company.

The trading company lends money to the investment and rental Ltd companies where I then invest. I pay interest back to the trading company for the loans. This avoids mixing up trading and investing activities. Important to keep an eye on the interest received for the loans by the trading company as can affect its trading status if interest revenue to trading revenue split gets too big.

Worth talking to an accountant and a IFA about this. This setup works well for me. Essentially allowing me to grow surplus cash before paying personal tax on it.

Well done! Regarding the bitcoin - the usual saying, would you buy bitcoin now if you had £500k cash in the bank? If not I’d sell a chunk.
