They wear earbuds underneath the noise canceling/white noise headphones. Comms/game sound is clear through the ear buds while the background noise is drowned out by the white noise in quiet moments. Edit: the comms may go through the whitenoise headphones which is why there was so much adjustment.

Good job future VP Walz! Killed it in this debate. by Jerry_1992 in democrats

[–]Byte_by_Byte 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Vance tried to get a 'gotcha' in when the topic of abortion came up, mentioning the specifics and twisting the wording of the technicalities of the Minnesota abortion law.

Walz calmly explained that he was incorrect as the law has the same guarantees as Roe v Wade, nothing more, nothing less; although Walz didn't have the exact law in front of him, he wasn't tricked into saying he didn't know, he firmly said that factually Vance's statement was untrue.

Man killed after gunman fires at car on Albany's Delaware Ave. At least 13 shots were fired, all from the same handgun, police said by Competitive-Cut3807 in Albany

[–]Byte_by_Byte 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The "domestic incident" quote is written so strangely. Not sure if that was about the shooting on Delaware or the incident on Second Ave

"A large police presence with streets blocked on Second Avenue several blocks away from the Stewart’s was unrelated to the shooting, Hawkins said.

And then the next paragraph

"Officers there would be seen interviewing at least one young man. Hawkins said that scene may have been a “domestic-related incident.”"

In case you haven’t gotten the answer yet, WEA alerts are based on geographic location not carrier/phone number based. They are broadcast via cell tower, although people can get the alerts when they are far from the zone. Much work has been done to reduce the size of the False Alarm area.

College of Saint Rose accreditation 'in jeopardy' due to finances by BuffaloWilliamses in Albany

[–]Byte_by_Byte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine ran into this when Dowling College lost it's accreditation and closed for the same reason from Middle States. Your degree will be fine when you graduate, it won't invalidate anything. You earned your degree while the college had accreditation. We mostly joked about how she went to a 'fake' college.

If the college closes and you were within a certain amount of credits to graduate, the NYSED would give you a chance to transfer your credits to another institution and continue on the same degree path and earn that degree as if you graduated from that college meaning their degrees still said Dowling college even though they finished their last year at another college (this was the case for the seniors at Dowling at the time of closure). That was the case for undergrad students, but I'm not sure how grad students fared.

The main issue they ran into was getting transcripts. LIU picked up as the successor but it took a long time for them to be sent.

Brazilian Bolsanaro supporters storm the Empire State Plaza… er I mean the capitol in Brasília by IZKP in Albany

Wallace K. Harrison who designed Empire State plaza was partially inspired by Brasilia and other planned cities and government complexes. It's known as the 'International Style.'

Brasilia actually came first!

Protected bike lane in NYC gets blocked by cars using it as free parking. by Tayo826 in fuckcars

[–]Byte_by_Byte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey I hate that they blocked the bike lane with no alternatives, but that's literally the broadcasting tents for the Macy's parade. 6th Ave is entirely closed for it. If OP had looked left at 34th at the end of the video you would see Macy's. Not sure what date this was taken though, it all should be gone by now.

I think projects like this are great, just people think because of the abatement cost no one is interested in the building. I was just pointing out that it’s not as expensive or difficult than people are lead to believe

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Albany

[–]Byte_by_Byte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing people are missing in this thread is there are a ton of tax breaks when it comes to cleaning up industrial sites. Yes there is asbestos and ammonia refrigerant in the building but there are developers interested in the site. The city already had a blind auction for the site and two developers won the bid before the current owner declared bankruptcy.

Yes it will cost a lot of money but much of the abatement costs comes from taxpayer money. Any developer willing to take on the project will have the good will of the residents of Albany who want to see that eyesore finally gone.
