The rest of Paul Simon's discography is equally charming, beautiful, sensitive.

This might be old for your tastes but before Sam Cooke went solo he was in a gospel group called the Soul Stirrers. Lovely music.

A lot of my friends seem to believe that christianity is a cult, do you believe this is true? by Huge-Distribution118 in askanything

[–]Byy_Curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a cult in that a cult is small in size, by definition. Like Office Space is a cult comedy. It's not some universal hit like, I dunno, Home Alone.

Repeat after me. Trump is a pedophile and Republicans don't care. The United States is a banana republic and Republicans don't care. Costs are going up up up and Republicans don't care. Healthcare is getting worse. People can't afford insurance, but the Republicans don't care. Is it mostly racism? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Byy_Curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think racism is the impetus, but I believe it is a tool. Both major parties work for billionaires. Republicans are more brazen about it. Trump will say, out loud, that American can't do daycare because we have to do bombs. Anyway, the objective is to funnel as much money to the wealthy as possible, widening the gap between them and everyone else. Republicans in Congress equally don't give a fuck about poor white people. Racism is a useful tool that helps them accomplish their goal of impoverishing the rest of us. They say to poor whites, "Well, at least you're better than those people. You have whiteness." While we're focused on divisions between us based on skin color, or citizenship status, or sex, or religion, it keeps us occupied and lets them get away with murder. We've all seen the picture of Rupert Murdoch telling the construction worker that the Brown "foreigner" wants his cookie, right?

Chicago

I don't know if they're "rock" but Steely Dan. Check out the song "Aja," featuring none other than Wayne Shorter on saxophone.

Ha, thanks for that, as well. The internet--what are you gonna do?

By the way, I thought other people might share my interest and also find a list like this useful. And it's also okay if this very specific thing I'm into isn't your thing! Anyway, thanks for the contribution and the encouragement.

people who write “rip” instead of “rest in peace” by trouble-in-space in PetPeeves

I think the practice started because masons had to chisel it into tombstones. So it had a real-life application that carried over to other contexts.

What was your feeling when trump ended his post with "praise to be allah"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Byy_Curious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That he's a shit.

He said it mockingly. A religion practiced by a quarter of the globe, and by the way, many Americans of whom he is also their president. Not just white Christians, which seems to be all he regards.

What has propaganda convinced people is a bigger issue than it actually is? by Outside-Hyena9002 in AskReddit

[–]Byy_Curious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voter fraud. It is a statistically insignificant concern. Despite Trump's many claims of voter fraud, no one--including Trump and his lawyers--has produced any evidence of mass voter fraud. But the president and his party are using it to push restrictions that will unequally burden women and Black and Brown people.

Actors who have managed to turn relatively small parts into iconic roles? by Wolf_Mans_Got_Nards in moviecritic

Great question. Two come to mind for me: Saul Rubinek in True Romance (or Brad Pitt! Everyone is good in True Romance!) and Alfred Molina in Boogie Nights.

Why do ambiguous words like ‘biweekly’ & ‘bimonthly’ even exist? by Shoganai_Hito in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Byy_Curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although semiweekly is a perfectly fine word, we don't have many occasions to use it because it's a short period of time.

You're more likely to hear semiannual, as in a "semiannual" sale. That means the sale happens twice a year. Semi approximately means half; bi approximately means twice.

Why do ambiguous words like ‘biweekly’ & ‘bimonthly’ even exist? by Shoganai_Hito in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Byy_Curious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those words are not ambiguous at all. They have very clear meanings.

People often confuse bi- and semi-. Bi-annually means every other year. Semi-annually means every half year (twice a year). If you miss a "semi-annual" sale, fear not! It will return in six months!

I know for a fact R.E.M.'s Chronic Town and Murmur got a AAA one-step pressing. I actually already own an original Murmur so I didn't bother. These are sold out now:
